Hello bought my first receiver a pioneer vsx-lx505 I see it’s got pretty decent reviews but the bad ones are bad… so I’m just seeing if I should return this and get a denon or Yamaha or if this is a solid one and will hold me down for years to come. Just worried my 1000 dollars could good out on me and need a little piece of mind. If it’s that bad of one what is a comparable choice thanks in advance

That is the Pioneer twin of the Onkyo TX-RZ50. I returned my Onkyo TX-NR6100. I didn't care for it and replaced it with a Denon AVR-X2800H that I'm very happy with.

Seeing the Pioneer and Onkyo twins were originally ~$1600 and can be bought new, from an authorized dealer for $900 - $1000, I'd say there's a reason. Hek, my Denon 7.1 receiver sells at the same price yet offers a lot less features and power output. There's a reason.

If you don't mind taking a risk and seeing if you'll end up liking it, it may be a good gamble.

For me, I've made my choice with the Denon. At the time I bought the Denon AVR-X2800H, the TX-NR7100 was the same price and the TX-RZ50 was about $200 more. Your Pioneer is selling from an authorized dealer right now at $900.

Most reviews, other than of their measurements, are useless IMO. Ergonomic or aesthetics maybe. It's not the best avr nor the worst, not the most amp or processing channels and not the least, not the most powerful powerful power supply/amp section, but not the worst.....got most of the current hdmi/hdcp/codec things, tho..

I've got the 305 and I love it....dumped a Denon for and never looked back.
Just ignore Amirs review on ASR...he went into a little baby fit when the nanny circuit kicked on.

If you replace it with a Denon, you'll have to pay additionally for Dirac. If you buy a Yamaha, you'll have no significant room correction beyond the manual PEQ on offer (or YPAO, which is considered to be rather basic).

Room Correction is an over hyped DSP. It sounds like garbage in my room. Never make a receiver choice based on room correction.

Seriously, I have no life.

You have that right. Those systems are based on a totally false premise. I don't have Dirac but I would not dream of paying for it. I have Audyssey on three of my systems and what ever you do with it, it substantially downgrades all of them. Audyssey remains off and will stay that way on all my systems.

I hate to go further on your point about being "useless", by saying that even our respected Gene/Audioholics.com, wish he would focus more on reviews with measurements, even a quick and brief one with a few key metrics such as THD+N (if he prefers) vs output at 2 V (pre outs), rated output (4 Ohms, at 0.05% THD), IMD. Those so called "reviews" on this site could have been just links to manufacturer's information sheets, but elaborate only with facts known only to the likes of Jacob Green, otherwise, just links will do. Sorry Gene, you know I respect that you are the best in this business, so please just take it as my hopefully constructive criticism.

I believe with the increasingly complex AVRs, AVPs, like 100 times the once exaggerated @TLS Guy's AVR negative points is becoming reality lol.., we can no longer expect the used to be virtually bug free AVRs/AVPs that we were getting from D+M, Y, and sometime even Onkyo/Integra's.

So, my theory now is, people need to spend time reading up on the useless subjective reviews HD just mentioned and educated themselves enough to identify the lowest cost/ie. best value AVRs/AVPs. That way, they can leverage "sound quality", reliability to minimize troubles via invest as little as possible so that if troubles could not be totally avoided, at least you would be out for say less than $2,000.

Obviously for those, such as Gene, Theo, TLSGuy etc., cost may not be much of an issue because to them, $2,000 or $$32,000 likely don't matter, and they could just focus on whatever they perceive are great values, subjective or objective, or not.;)
