JD Vance and his military record

Seriously, I have no life.
The audacity to call out Malz of his National Guard service.
One can examine Vance's own words on July 16, 2024, or actually a bit before as it takes time to publish.

The military paper Stars and Stripes:
Vance credits service in Marine Corps for teaching him ‘how to live like an adult’ | Stars and Stripes

"He spent his service working in public affairs, writing about Marines and taking photographs of their work, escorting civilian news reporters and speaking about happenings on base. "

“I was lucky to escape any real fighting,” Vance wrote of his deployment.

There may be some more choice confessions in there.

What's the expression about holes and digging?

How it started.

McCaffrey served in the United States Army for 32 years and at retirement was the most highly decorated serving General. He was awarded three Purple Heart medals, two Distinguished Service Crosses and two Silver Stars for valor.

At least Vance did serve. Unlike his chickenshit draft dodging running mate who had the balls to call out John McCain for being a POW. But Vance should know better than to attack a fellow veteran on his record since Vance's' was not all that impressive. JMHO.

LOL, read for yourself.........

the 'embellishment' I speak of is his 'command sergeant major' rank.
I don't see it

One of the documents shows Walz reverted back to master sergeant from command sergeant major when he retired from the Minnesota National Guard in May 2005.

Army soldiers promoted to the rank of sergeant major or command sergeant major are required to attend the Sergeants Major Course, or what was formerly known as the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.
Lt. Col. Augé, the Minnesota National Guard spokesperson, told CBS News that Walz retired as a master sergeant in 2005 for "benefit purposes" because he did not complete additional coursework at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy.

He could very well have been the command sergeant major while attending the necessary courses for permanent rate but at some time during the courses he decided to retire. And to maintain a permanent rate/rank for retirement he would have to have completed all the courses. He decided to retire for whatever reason.
Not an embellishment in my book, similar to temporary battlefield promotions.

I would say it is similar to officers being promoted at a given date but allowed to wear the new rank prior to the date. Waltz could very well fall into this but then at a time he decided to retire.

And, further reading indicates he was indeed promoted but had to serve 2 years for retirement with that rate. He decided to retire before with the last rate.

It's called a nothing-burger, @Mikado463 . I know you're smarter than that.

Hell, his old Guard mates corroborate Walz retiring before they got orders to ship out and supported his choice to run for congress... a race which he won and why he retired. As has already been stated, he earned the promotion yet didn't finish the associated training.

Currently, the right is running for any little rock they can throw in hopes of derailing the revival of the Democratic campaign. Thus far I haven't seen anything promising from the Dumpster Fire that is the Republican campaign.

In our military, one can be promoted as "acting/lacking", meaning that you have to complete certain training requirements within a set amount of time to make that rank substantive. Regardless, if you've been promoted to a rank, you hold that rank, with all the attendant rights and responsibilities.

Also, let's not forget, you don't just ask to retire one day and done the next. It takes a good bit of time so that 2/3 month before activating turns out perhaps 6 month before retirement day when deciding to retire.
