This is has now been confirmed by the Ukraine military.

>>>KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s air force claimed Saturday to have downed a Russian hypersonic missile over Kyiv using newly acquired American Patriot defense systems, the first known time the country has been able to intercept one of Moscow’s most modern missiles. . . . Oleshchuk said the Kh-47 missile was launched by a MiG-31K aircraft from the Russian territory and was shot down with a Patriot missile.<<<

So much for Russia’s most modern weapon; outdone by a missle system designed decades ago. Perhaps Turkey should look into getting a refund on the S-400 system they bought.

LOL! To be fair, the S-400 missiles are highly effective against unaware civilian airliners.

The FBI reportedly nuked the Russian snake malware after monitoring it for almost 20 years. Perhaps the FBI was feeding the snake garbage all those years?

>>>According to court documents unsealed today (affidavit and search warrant), the U.S. government kept a close eye on Snake and Snake-linked malware tools for almost 20 years while also monitoring Russian Turla hackers using Snake from an FSB facility in Ryazan, Russia.

Described as "the FSB's most sophisticated long-term cyberespionage malware implant," Snake allowed its operators to remotely install malware on compromised devices, steal sensitive documents and information (e.g., authentication credentials), maintain persistence, and hide their malicious activities when using this "covert peer-to-peer network." . . .

"As described in court documents, through analysis of the Snake malware and the Snake network, the FBI developed the capability to decrypt and decode Snake communications," the U.S. Justice Department said.

"With information gleaned from monitoring the Snake network and analyzing Snake malware, the FBI developed a tool, named PERSEUS, that establishes communication sessions with the Snake malware implant on a particular computer, and issues commands that causes the Snake implant to disable itself without affecting the host computer or legitimate applications on the computer."<<<

It is now being reported that the Kinzhal was targeting the Patriot missle system. So far, so good, but the Russians will probably learn from their initial failure and try different tactics.

>>>Russia tried to destroy a US-made Patriot air defense system in Ukraine last week with a hypersonic missile, two US officials told CNN.

The attack failed, and the Ukrainian military instead intercepted the missile using the Patriot system, the officials said, marking their first known successful Ukrainian use of the advanced air defense system only weeks after it arrived in country.

The Ukrainian air defenders fired multiple missiles from the Patriot at different angles to intercept the Russian missile, demonstrating how quickly they have become adept at using the powerful system, one official said.<<<

I would hope that the Patriot missile system has a few more guidance routines waiting for the right time too.

This video is very informative as to the situation in Russia.

Ukraine claims to have shot down every Russian missile in a massive attack overnight, including 6 "hypersonic" Kinzhal missiles.

>>>Ukrainian air defense forces said Tuesday in a statement: “This night Russia attacked Ukraine from south, north, and east. From six aircraft MiG-31K, six hypersonic missiles X-47M2 ‘Kinzhal’ were launched, 9 cruise missiles ‘Kalіbr’ — from ships off the Black Sea and three ground-based missiles (S-400, ‘Iskander-M’). All of them were shot down.”

All six Kinzhal hypersonic missiles were heading toward Kyiv, air defense forces spokesman Yuriy Ignat added. “This is a remarkable result. As you see Kyiv remains the main target. That is why it is well protected by some serious air defense means,” Ignat said.<<<

Assuming it's the Patriot system that show them down (like the first one), it's a good testament to the Patriot system in use in actual combat against these types of missiles.

Ukraine should also go after the platforms that launched them, even over Russia.

Not something their allies want using the weapons they supplied. One of the conditions for Ukraine to receive the long-range ‘Storm Shadow’ cruise missiles from UK is a promise they'll only be used inside Ukraine's internationally recognized borders (which, of course, includes Crimea).

Apparently, Ukraine has done a number of attacks inside Russia but that is not something they admit publicly.

CNN is reporting that one of the Patriot missile systems was "likely damaged, but not destroyed."

>>>A US-made Patriot air defense system was likely damaged, but not destroyed, as the result of a Russian missile barrage in and around Kyiv early Tuesday morning local time, a US official tells CNN.

The US is still assessing to what degree the system was damaged, the official said. That will determine whether the system needs to be pulled back entirely or simply repaired on the spot by Ukrainians forces. . . .

Another US official said it is possible that the missile barrage hit one of the Patriot battery’s several components. A complete Patriot battery has six major components: generators, a radar set, a control station, antennas, a launcher station and interceptor missiles. The components operate together to fire a Patriot missile and successfully guide it to its target.

But extensive damage to one or more of the components may force Ukraine to take the system offline and out of country for more extensive repairs.<<<

The Russians claim to have shot down several Storm Shadows. It's possible, but I'm skeptical.

Whenever I hear the term Storm Shadow I can't help but think of Storm Shadow from GI Joe:

>>> Storm Shadow is a fictional character from the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toyline, comic books and animated series. He is best known as the Cobra Commander's ninja bodyguard, and for his history with fellow ninja Snake Eyes.<<<

Yes but going after weapons launchers, especially at the initial firing by them should be allowed as it is a defensive move, not a first strike move.

The concern from some NATO members is an escalation to a wider conflict that includes NATO, especially if NATO weaponry is used inside Russia. Even for use inside Ukraine there has been a significant foot dragging to supply weapons, like moderns tanks and long-range missiles. So far only air planes from the Soviet Union era has been given to Ukraine, and a number of them is not even in the best (i.e. usable) condition.

So here we are, but do recall that more and more advanced weaponry has been given to Ukraine over time, after some procrastination.
