Troubleshooting Marantz 7012 A/V Receiver - No Audio or Video

Just after falling outside extended warranty, my Marantz 7012 stopped both the audio and video signals. Worked one night and not the next morning. No video or audio throughput from any source, i.e., cable, DVD player, CD changer, Fire Stick. Even the tuner doesn't provide audio. No changes in set up. Still powers up. Went to Best Buy where I purchased for help and troubleshooting. Once they found out it was a month out or warranty, not much help. Were supposed to get back to me and did not.

Tried to troubleshoot to see if the problem was the TV, source (cable box, DVD, etc.), HDMI cable. Have verified that the TV works, have changed out HDMI cables. Seems like it's the Receiver. This is the second Marantz that developed problems. Video card went out on first. Was still under warranty.

Best Buy simply said they can send in to see what Marantz says. If it's a card that went out, I hate to think what they'd charge to replace.

Any advice on how to troubleshoot or try to get this working? Any similar experience with this Marantz model or similar? Seems like by spending more for a better brand it should last.

Grateful for any help!

Did you do a soft reset? (unplug it from the wall for a bit then try again). A full/factory/microprocessor reset would be the next step up.

Yes, unplugged for a day and plugged back in. Same symptoms. How do I do a microP reset and what would cause that fault? Thanks!

Why do computers freeze up sometimes? With full reset you'll lose settings unless that model provides for saving them. It's on p.298 of your pdf manual.

Seriously, I have no life.

Can you hear the test tones in the speaker set up menu from any, or all of the speakers? Can you hear a faint hiss from the speakers, when you put you ear close to the tweeters? If the answer to that question is no, then probably something has happened to the power supply to the power amp section, like a failed regulator for instance.

What ever the situation, I would do a hard reset. This is how.

This does seem it most likely is a hardware problem, but you never know, so try at least three hard resets before sending it in for service.

You have now had trouble with two units. Where are these units placed and what is the ventilation situation? I have reason to suspect you are not properly ventilating those units, and or playing them too loud. Also what speakers do you have connected?

Receivers of all stripes are not very robust, which is a big reason I don't use them.

For D+M avrs, the first step is to check the fault code(s) to see what might have happened before it went deal! Should do it before a factory reset, though I believe the fault codes would still be there even after a reset but I am not 100% sure about that.

How do you check fault codes?

Sorry had to go out now but would try to post a link that has previously been posted by me and others. In the mean time, if you google hard you will find it. The one I have is an Excel spreadsheet that iirc also include the reset sequence for most D+M models up to the year 2019 (may be 2020 too) models. If I remember wrong, then it must have been those in the service manuals that I read and posted.

I'd seen it mentioned before, maybe by you, but haven't seen any links. I'd love to check my 4520....it's been acting up a bit. I'll try searching but if you find a link I'd appreciate it (here or pm).

Here it is, someone found this spreadsheet before:

special mode

See column L

The AVR-4520 is not included in the spreadsheet so you will have to download the service manual and read page 67-68. Depending on the issues you are having, you may have to reference the other pages so it is best to download the service manual (hifiengine.com) when you still can.
