Maybe the better way to describe it is that every other episode added an additional shark for the Fonz to jump. :)
Jumping the Shark | Know Your Meme
For me they jumped one shark too many when the Dragon died and came back. ;) That was the last episode I watched, and I called it the whole way it was so predictable.
It's not about dark and brutal, its about just knowing when to say when... and they didn't.
*shrugs
That was the straw that broke my back... but there are lists of other Shark jumping moments.
Uh, didn't everyone die and come back in that series? Sort of a typical zombie kinda flick/series? Never did care much for the zombie/vampire thing myself, tho....

Yeah the whole winter people thing on that side of the wall in GOT were zombies, including critters.....

I am liking the RoP series somewhat, what LoTR series? :)

Disney will probably just disappoint once again with their #starwarsagony.

Lol so in Anime when characters keep jumping the shark and coming back like that we call that plot Armour. The character has to much plot Armour to have anything happen to them. yeah towards the end of season 7 and all the last season it got ridiculous. But that's what happens when you run out books from the series to draw from

Yeah it's not accurate and it's not the masterpiece we were treated too with Peter Jackson BUT

when I learned they couldn't get the rights to the Silmarillion I went into it with lowered expectations. I mean that in a good way. Because asking writers to write as good as Tolkien is just not fair. I mean we're talking about someone who is considered one of the founding fathers of modern day fantasy for crying out loud.

But it's not bad as it is it's no Tolkien but nothing really ever would be unless your adapting straight from his works.

I'd maybe like to see them since they can't go with his story lines get innovative and just create all sorts of cool spinoff ideaa with the fact this is thousands of years before the Lord of the Rings.

I mean the total hard-core fan boys won't be okay with that but nothing would ever truly make them happy anyway

Yeah heard some of the perverted rights access issues in various Tolkien writings....in a way just glad we get anything instead of the family not cooperating at all, which at one point seemed how it could go....

Yeah I totally agree I'm glad the family was willing to give them something to work with

I still can't get over how much they spent on this tho. I feel like that part of the dark knight when the joker asks the cop how many of your friends I killed and he's like 6 and the joker is like 6666??? And makes that face.

I'm like how much did this series cost? Close to a billion. A billion? I'm making the joker face right now. :D

Think of it in terms of $ per hour of finished product....a 2 hr movie would look good next to a 12-15 hr season.....

I'm just enjoying this for what it is. I had no expectations going into this show, except to be entertained and see a good story. Thus far, I'm more than satisfied.

I've read almost all of Professor Tolkiens works (though I haven't read anything but The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings in decades). And I've read the two above mentioned works more times than I can remember. I did an annual reading of them for about 15 straight years, and plan to do so again this year. Starting this week, I'll read The Hobbit, and (geek alert) on September 22nd (Bilbo and Frodos birthdays, as well as my brother in-laws) I'll start The Lord of The Rings again.

The original trilogy movies were great. Especially the extended editions. But they certainly were not true to the book, maybe 65% accurate. But just to see those presented on the big screen was glorious. And I enjoyed them immensely. My son and I do an annual watching of both trilogies.

The Hobbit movies were an abomination. Don't get me wrong I still enjoyed them, but there was so much extraneous $#!+ that simply did not need to be there. The book is ~287 pages long. And they stretched it out into 3 three hour long movies. I can (literally) read the entire book in less time than it takes to watch the movies.

This series, if what I hear about a planned 5 seasons is true, gives us the equivalent of another ~15 Tolkien/Middle Earth based movies. If the story and production values stay consistent to the first 3 episodes I'll be happier than a pig in $#!+.

I personally cannot wait to see where this takes us. I have my suspicions about it, and hope that what I'm thinking is indeed the path this show takes. Looking forward (in a big way ) to episode 4 this week.

Im all caught up having watched E3 last night. Im hooked. The scenery, the special effects, the acting and the story line is top notch and mimicks Tolkien quite effectively.

I'm hooked as well. Having read all the books, plus the Silmarillion and I've seen all the movies multiple times ( own them all) , if the movie keeps moving forward, it should be good.

I'm giving this one a chance. Keeping my mind open and trying hard not to compare to any of the previous films. Hopefully this one is just a slow starter but it's not getting me too excited so far.

Watched episode 4 yesterday, really liking the story progression so far. I'd be interested to see how the end of this episode moves forward to the next as the " queen noted she would be escorting Galadriel to middle-earth", as in the Silmarillion the queen stays in her castle ( I'll just leave it at that as to not spoil any outcome based on the book) . Yep liking it.

I've tried to watch this but it's absolute poop. It's like a series produced with clipart.

Case in point: SE1E5 at 1:02:30 with the sequence ending with him looking into the distance gallantly. Gag me with a spoon.

I think they have a lot of good story elements. They just don't seem to know how to pull them together in a way that makes the story interesting. Most recent episode was pretty blah.
