It seems unlike the flu and colds Covid just hits certain people with so many different after effects.
Very much so. I didn't get any of the skin issues, but my brother did.

So many strange after effects with this one. Blood clots, kidney function issues, lungs, skin, etc.

Yeah, no kidding about all the strange after effects.

I know a guy in his mid 40s who got it in the summer of 2020. The initial illness was similar to the flu and he was mostly over it after a week. But, he had lingering effects for a very long time, and I'm not sure if he's completely over it (it seems to have made his gout permanently worse, and he had periods of fatigue lasting for a few hours that would set in at random from time to time).

I know another guy (also mid 40s) who got it about 6 months ago and he's had very significant problems ever since. Last I heard, he had been gone to numerous specialists, but no one has been able to figure it out. As I understand it, the thinking is that he may have had a preexisting condition that was in some way triggered by COVID, but this appears to be just a guess at this point.

On the other hand, I know quite a few people who recovered completely (as far as they know) after only minor symptoms.

It (the virus, or the body's response to it) can apparently effect the brain, nerves, blood vessels, etc. In contrast to a VISA card, it's everywhere you don't want it to be.

Today is Tuesday, day 6 since I got Covid-19. This morning I took my 10th and last dose of Paxlovid. I only felt poor last Wednesday and Thursday. I first tested positive Thursday morning, and I started taking Paxlovid late Thursday afternoon.

Since then, I've had only mild symptoms, no worse than a head cold. My worst complaints are wearing a mask all day, the boredom of isolation, and the nasty taste in the back of my mouth. Perhaps that's from one of the ingredients of Paxlovid. Now that I've finished it, I'll know later today if that's really the case.

I've retested myself on Saturday, and again this morning. Positive both times. For what it's worth, on Saturday the test quickly showed positive soon after I started developing the color, long before 15 minutes had passed, and before the control line developed. This morning, it took much longer to see the positive test line, which only developed after the control line had developed. I'll call Saturday a strong positive and today a weaker positive. **Wishful Thinking Alert**. So in an effort to not fool myself, I'm done with the 5 days of Paxlovid, but I'm still positive. I'll test again tomorrow.

Glad to hear your symptoms are not too terrible. Let us know it goes.

what is the need to wear a mask if you're isolated ?

My wife, who lives in the same house, is not infected. She tested negative by both the quick home test, and by PCR test, as of Saturday. Since I was infected, she moved to a guest bedroom, and I wear a mask.

After I test negative, things can return to normal.

Today is day 7 since I got Covid-19. I didn't test myself yet, and probably won't until tomorrow. I've been told not to expect a negative test until day 10, but possibly earlier. That makes it Saturday or Sunday depending whether day 1 was last Wednesday or Thursday.

Yesterday morning was my last dose of Paxlovid. By evening I sure seemed like that bad taste in my mouth was going away. Still there, but not nearly so noticeable as it had been. This morning, it's nearly gone, but not yet 100% gone. If that's the worst side effect of Paxlovid, I'll take it.

So, how bad was that taste? Imagine an ugly multi-legged bug crawling into your mouth. First it used your mouth as a latrine … and then its mausoleum. I took those Paxlovid pills every 12 hours, and that taste was strong for about half that time between doses.

My wife rarely gets angry, and when she does, she's very slow to get there. She went out of her way to tell me that once one of us got Covid-19, she expected the other would get it too. I didn't feel any blame at all coming from her about this.

When it comes to personal health matters, we both support each other by learning the facts and combining it with rosy-eyed optimism. I may be a hard-nosed skeptic from a lifetime in science, but as we've aged, we found being confident of a good outcome never hurts, and may help quite a lot.
hopefully she is symptomatic
She's feeling about the same symptoms I had. A runny nose, a persistent cough, and nothing worse. This morning, now that she's had two doses of Paxlovid, she confirmed that bad mouth taste I had mentioned earlier.

I've been slightly worried about loosing my sense of smell, but wasn't been able to confirm that I can smell anything – or not – especially when that bad Paxlovid taste overwhelmed everything else. This morning, I remembered my shaving soap (Poraso Red) has a noticeable sandalwood scent that I like. I got it out, lifted the lid, and there it was. I could easily smell it.

Yuck I have covid. Ma had it so that's probably why. The most noticeable is the back pain. Probably more than I'd ever experienced getting out of bed. Did some back exercises and was quite a bit better. Also the chills, stuffy nose, sore throat, and bad headache. Ma had relatively mild symptoms.

There was a lot of talk about how under Obama, there were recommendations to start planning for a pandemic after the original SARS incidents. They stated that another more serious event was highly likely given the nature of Covid type viruses. That data and recommendation was passed on to the Trump administration who promptly ignored it and then grabbed their ankles and inserted their heads when it actually happened.

One of my good friends' wife is a scientist and her area of study just happened to be Covid viruses. She published a paper right before this one hit.

Sorry to hear that. I just over a case. I got Paxlovid as fast as I could. A 5-day course worked as promised. My last dose was on Tuesday morning, and I've tested negative on Wednesday afternoon and again this morning.

In addition to Paxlovid, I took ibuprofen for headache and fever.

Look for Test to Treat locations near you.

I really can't believe you're sincere about posting that link. It's a mess of misinformation and half-baked conspiracy fantasies. You've had your knuckles rapped repeatedly about this, so I expect you know better. Yet, you do it again and again.

j_garcia got it right in his above post.

NOWHERE did I say it was Gospel, merely just another example of what the internet is perpetrating. So I take it Marion Koopmans is a fake in your opinion ? Regardless I got another 'notch' in my totem pole from ole 'Trellsky' !

You posted politically motivated falsehoods about the pandemic before. When I or others call you out on it, you protest that you never claimed it was actually true. I don't recall you ever volunteering the idea that 'here's another example of the bs posted online about the pandemic'. You've played that innocent card a bit too often for me to believe you.

In politics there is a faction among the right wing where 'getting the liberals panties in a knot' has become a game. That would be the Beavis & Butt-head faction of the right wing. Do you really intend to present yourself here in that manner?

Politics is one thing, but public health, in the face of a serious life-threatening pandemic, is quite another matter. Nearly 1 million people in the USA have died in the past 2 years because of Covid-19. And that's only counting those whose deaths were directly attributable to that virus.

Playing politics over a disease responsible for 1 million or more deaths is irresponsible and reckless.
