This brings to mind a question that pops into my mind every time I read of some cyber-shenanigans emanating from Russia or China. Why don't we hear more about US measures to combat this stuff? Are they keeping their powder dry for some instance when revealing/unleashing countermeasures is considered justifiable?
Great question. Just a thought, two things are going on here. First is the US gov't lets the private corporations defend themselves because it would cost much in tax dollars to protect them. Why should US taxpayers protect private company's intellectual property? A real point of debate. Second, they don't want to disclose our current level of technology, our tactics to combat it, and we want to see what they are looking at.

Then again, the Russians or the Chinese could have already hacked into the latter and they know anyway. What we do is that it is considered a weapon of warfare that could cripple a country's economy, infrastructure, and probably the military.

If the NSA was hacked, why would corporations want the US government to be responsible for their security?

Sabotage perhaps ??

I've wondered the same thing. Newsweek states that fires are common in Russia, but it seems like a remarkable coincidence.

>>>Accidental fires are common in Russia, with aging infrastructure and non compliance with safety standards causing hundreds of blazes each year.<<<

Too bad we probably won't read about a case of Putin burning in a case of spontaneous combustion.

Further about Cyber attacks/hacks.

And these strange fires. Two started by planes crashing into them. Coincidence or not, more stress on the system.

Reminds me of the old Burt Lancaster movie, The Train. Great flick and they don't make actors like that anymore.

I just hope Putin doesn't go totally nuts and do something the whole world will regret. This type of war will only be fought by missiles, no boots on the ground, no tanks, just retaliation and dark days.

If Musk is not exaggerating, it sounds like Starlink beat Russian hacking attempts in Ukraine with remarkable speed and effectiveness (Apologies if this was already posted).

>>>After SpaceX sent Starlink terminals to Ukraine in February in an apparent effort to help Ukraine maintain its internet connection amid war with Russia, SpaceX founder Elon Musk claimed that Russia had jammed Starlink terminals in the country for hours at a time. After a software update, Starlink was operating normally, said Musk, who added on March 25 that the constellation had “resisted all hacking & jamming attempts” in Ukraine.

Assuming Musk — famously something of a showboater in his public comments — is providing an accurate picture, a private firm beating back Russian EW attempts with software updates is the kind of thing that makes Pentagon EW experts pay attention.<<<
