Wife Totaled Her Car

Sorry to hear of your wife’s bad time been there and done that with mine . Back in 2008 my wife commuted 60 miles one way to work we went threw a lot of rides as she changed them out every 3 years because of mileage.
Long story short she had just bought a new Subaru Outback sedan sweet ride she drove it to work the best day 80 miles on it and a dude run a red light hit her broadside at the front left wheel drug her car almost 150 feet , smacked her up pretty good too she was never able to work again after that .
The car hears the funky part should have been totaled but the insurance company said no way it’s new we’ll fix it so they sent it 300 miles away to have the whole front end straightened and most was replaced these are unibody frames and they had to straighten the frame only one place in the country can do that in Erie Pa. . Long story short they had it for 4 months and supplied a loner the whole time but when it came back it was guaranteed to be better than new and it was . It moved part of the front frame almost 6 inches off center to the right . From about the front door was replaced frame motor everything. The resulting law suit from the uninsured driver that hit her took 3 years as the guy took off after the accident and hid his truck for years but was eventually tracked down and caught .
If it hadn’t been for traffic cameras we’d have never found out who it was or if she was in the right .
It was a long drawn out affair. My wife eventually had to go on disability because of the injuries to here neck and upper spinal injuries but all these years later she’s mostly good but does get spinal shots in her upper spine and into her neck .
We had to sue the insurance companies on both sides ours and his eventually . It cost her a career and massive migraine headaches that will never go away but she’s here . In the end tho the insurance company had as much fixing the new car as it cost new a week before I just never understood there thinking on that .
Glad your better half is ok .

Man... hit and run. That makes things so much worse! For everyone! In my state it's a criminal charge. I think a felony if someone got hurt. You're better off just staying and taking your medicine. Take off and try to hide in today's age of cell phone cameras and traffic cameras is just stupid. Bad enough being uninsured, but that's just a ticket. Now you have to deal with a felony, on top of taking responsibility for everything.

We live in Ohio she drove into Pennsylvania to work there insurance law states they only have to have the bare minn at best it got ugly when they tried come to terms of who was going to pay first hospital bills or what then there was loss of work/income and future career.
They left her hanging we had like 3 insurance companies not paying anything to the med or anything till it was decided who was the one responsible cause they couldn’t catch him about two years of that and were like nope time for some attorney time took awhile about a year But in the end 100% winner on our side .

And you're making my point exactly about how it just makes things worse for everyone. Caused you guys all kinds of grief and he might have gotten a felony out of it to boot. He deserves one in my eyes. The only reason I could see someone really wanting to take off like that as if they weren't insured at all and didn't want to get sued into oblivion. That just makes him even more stupid. I'm glad you guys came out on top.

I love how the guy fled the scene of the accident and the insurance companies want to lord helmet around over fault. Typical.

He stated in court he was late for work is why he ran the red light he actually passed a car to the outside at this 4 way stop she was still inside the off ramp but had the green he wanted threw first was actually on penn dot film of him stopping and getting out pick up her front plate 150 yards up the street but got spooked when he looked back and ran .

You know anything about certified preowned/used? I know what that is, but I only know 1 or 2 people who went that route. I'm always afraid of ending up with someone else's problems buying used.

I bought two of my Accords certified pre-owned. Had the first one for 10 years until 175k miles and the other was totaled at ~120k miles with only 5 payments left on it. I also bought the extended warranties from Honda for those cars as well and they were well worth it IMO.

Unfortunately you're probably looking at having a payment with how insane used car prices are right now.

I know it may seem like being rewarded, by buying new... However, NIN is right. All things considered, I'd look new first and only consider used if there really isn't another option.
A stripped down Civic is only about $23K. As long as you don't find a Dealer trying to boost MSRP with a surcharge, something like this is the path I would follow.

Alternatively, now might not be a bad time to lease with how much used car prices are. A Civic EX will net her a more powerful engine, heated seats, and a bunch of other goodies that she'd probably be very happy with and is only a $3k step up.

When we leased our 2018 Civic EX, we put down $2.5k and our monthly payments was $245. I have since bought out the lease as the car doesn't even have 10k miles on it yet and is essentially like new. Here's the kicker, the residual buyout value on the lease was $14k, they appraised the car as being worth $24k last September. So even though it was 3 years old, it had only depreciated $4k in value because of how nuts the used car market is right now. Hell, I could get more for my car than I bought it for 3 years ago, which also blows my mind.

You always have the option to buy it out. Or maybe in 3 years the used market isn't as insane and you can get something used more reasonably priced then.

It doesn't require cameras to find someone, the police can track the phone.

Since 1998, I've been driving Honda Civics. Those cars are reliable. I'm on my seventh since 2019.

LOL, I presume you meant since 1998, regardless 7 cars in 24 years is no mark of reliability. I do agree though, Honda / Toyota is probably the way to go.
