As I mentioned before, I would be more disturbed by the loss of Russian architecture than by the people who might die if the Kremlin were bombed out of existence. If Putin has indeed holed up in a bunker beneath the big red building, the appropriate response for him firing nukes would be to make a big hole where that building stands. Not with nukes, just big, conventional bombs. I don't think their military would be able to defend against the US alone, certainly not the US AND Nato/allied countries.

I just saw that 13 AN124 aircraft were arrested, mostly in Canada. This means the crews must de-plane and the aircraft must stay put. That also means Russia will have a hard time moving large amounts of, well, anything.
Just so we are aware of facts, the AN-124 is a Ukrainian built, Ukrainian engineered aircraft. produced at the Antonov factory outside of Kyiv, engines come from Motor-sich in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine, these guys made simply unreal jet engines and helicopter engines.... those Ukraninan engineers were world class!

As far as I understand those Motor Sich Progress D-18T engines from the early 1980´s are pretty close to the same powerful as the hypermodern Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and General Electric GEnx usedd in the Boeing 787 dreamliner.

IMHO russian engineering is not even close to what those guys were doing!

I can only find reference to one AN124 grounded in Canada. It hasn't been seized, but can't leave because Canadian airspace is closed to Russian aircraft.

❗Bucha. Children's camp.

Basement. All bodies are with their hands tied. All were tortured, some had their legs shot, some had 5 bullets in the heart, some got shot in the head. The Russians lived there for a month.

To widen a war - that you are clearly making a hash of - to include an inordinately stronger opponent would be a level of stupidity that I can't imagine.
At least one person who knows Putin can imagine it:

>>>The exiled Russian oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky said in an interview with CNN on Sunday that the next step in Russian President Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine might be the invasion of the Baltic countries of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

"We must understand that, in his head, Putin is at war not with Ukraine," Khodorkovsky said. "He's at war with the United States and NATO. He said this more than once." . . .

"His propagandists have already been started to prepare Russian society for an attack on NATO countries. They're constantly talking about this," Khodorkovsky said. "And this is the preparation of Russian public opinion for this."

Early last month, Khodorkovsky predicted the invasion of Ukraine would end Putin's government. In his Sunday interview with Fareed Zakaria, however, he expressed concern that Putin went "insane" when Ukrainians resisted the invasion and that the attacks could escalate. <<<

Some reports state that Putin has committed up to 75% of his forces in Ukraine (link below). I find myself wondering what would happen if NATO started massing troops in Estonia and Latvia on the border with Russia. It would be a relatively short drive from there to Moscow if Putin didn't shift his military assets north away from Ukraine.

Given how degraded his forces are right now, it is somewhat tempting, at least as a thought experiment (I'm not seriously suggesting it, and I have absolutely zero input on NATO deployments here in the real world)

“In Mariupol Russian occupiers took turns raping a woman for several days in front of her 6 year old son. She later died of her wounds. Her young son's hair turned grey. This is not a horror movie. Rape, violence, murder - this is what "russian world" stands for”, Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

That is outrageous and barbarian.
I believe that the fastest way to end that war would be for NATO, without further delay, to accept Ukraine's request to join their group, and to warn Russia that they will respond without much delay if Putler does not retrieve his army. Otherwise, more crimes and a lot more innocent civilians will be assaulted and die.

This story makes me cry

F3D7BABC-7A01-4A87-B13D-F54EFB29497C.jpeg

A six-year-old boy, Sasha, who the whole of Ukraine was looking for, had been shot dead by the occupiers

The parents have been looking for the little boy since March 10. It was then that the child and his grandmother on a boat tried to evacuate from the village of Sukholuchcha in the Kyiv region to the opposite bank of the Kyiv reservoir.

The attempt was unsuccessful. And the parents believed that their child was still alive. Only weeks later, the boy's body was found, he had died of a gunshot wound.

Patrick Zeihan has some interesting thoughts on this topic, and on geopolitics in general in ways that i have never thought about.
Pretty clear statement from Zeihan: russia is a country of complete idiots
and maximum 150 people across russia that is capable of political leadership!
They don´t even have capable engineering education according to Zeihan.
Guess.... if you don´t have any educated people, there will be no-one to challenge putler, WOW

the demographics point is quite interesting, the ethnic russians are disapearing, basically only a matter of time.

Russia is engaging in ethnic cleansing. Their entire military needs to be totally obliterated. Biden needs to draw a starker line in the sand; either you are with the free world or you are with despotic autocracies. This message needs to be sent domestically by Biden as well as abroad since too many American conservatives support Putin's brand of evil. Cut off the countries that support Russia. This is an axis vs allies scenario. Force China and India to pick a side, and then end economic and diplomatic relations with them if they side with Russia.

We need Biden to message the ideology behind this conflict better. His policies are good, but his messaging sucks. We need him to bring out his inner Winston Churchill. We also need to bring huge punitive actions against companies that still do business in Russia. Everyone should take a close look at this list; boycott any business that gets anything less than a B on that list. In a capitalistic democracy, any purchase from a company that still does business with Russia is an endorsement of and a vote for Russia's aggression.

It's interesting how many European companies continued to export weapons to Russia after the 2014 ban (link below).

>>>Missiles, aircraft, rockets, torpedoes, bombs. Russia continued to buy EU weapons until at least 2020. Despite the ongoing embargo, ten member states exported € 346 million worth of military equipment, according to public data analysed by Investigate Europe. Some of these weapons could be used against Ukraine now.<<<

The following is inexplicable to me:

>>>But Europe is not alone in having to deal with contradictions regarding their exports. According to SIPRI’s data on arms exports, there’s an even stranger fact: it was not just the EU selling arms to Russia after the annexation of Crimea – Russia also remained the second biggest market for weapons exports from Ukraine.<<<

Were these just a few individual companies in Ukraine that decided to dodge the ban in order to make a few quick $? (I have not tried to dig into this any further, so I don't know what the answer is).

The depravity of the Europeans responsibility for this war beginning, between their energy polices tying themselves to Russia and the arms sales you mention knows no bounds. This website obviously hates France but sometimes that's not unreasonable.
