Anyone using them or have any recommendations on which ones to get? I'm thinking about getting some for sh!ts and giggles.

I've used the Buttkickers for years and loved them. I currently haven't installed them yet in my new home theater but will soon. They add a whole new level of immersion no matter how intense you think your subs are.

I had never wanted them at home, but after we went to a theater with the transducer seats, I told her we could to that at home and she said that would be fun.

I installed a Clark Synthesis transducer under my seat, using an amp channel from one of my sub amps. Just a tad more tactile than the subs alone.

Or in my case with a big sub nearfield I'm not so sure I'd gain much from buttkickers.

If I didn't have one nearfield I might entertain it. They are pretty cool for movies. Or even go one further with a BOSS system! (@William Lemmerhirt!)

Scroll down for pics of the build.

Yes indeed!!! I am an advocate of the BOSS.
I have never really found BK’s or other shakers to be very good. They always seemed to be…just a little off. I absolutely believe this could have been due to not being set up correctly.
Disclaimer: my experiences with buttkickers, and other transducers were in other peoples rooms.
As for the BOSS. I actually stumbled on that thread at almost the exact same time I was trying to engineer a more natural TR device. Short version is that I mounted a baffle in my couch with a 12” JBL subwoofer driver, and replaced the feet with Hudson ISO’s. I also placed them on the baffle for a total of 8, and put a bicycle innertube around the driver. Basically my couch is a hover boss. My wife didn’t want to se a riser, so I said…OK!!! IME it’s much better than other TR devices. I think part of that is because it uses an actual speaker to creat the movement, so it for lack of a better description, it “feels” like a speaker. In the same way you feel a subwoofer. My friend built a back BOSS with two 15’s mounted to the back of his loveseat. He didn’t build a riser or use ISO’s so there’s less “wobble” down deep, but it has a “sharpness” to the shake if that makes sense. It’s also very good. Since this is basically IB, there’s no SPL. As I mentioned. My subs are good to about 15ish. The reason I did the BOSS was because in order to get the TR I wanted, I had to push my little subs more than I wanted to since my room is large and on concrete. So I have knee on my BOSS at about 5hz and it tapers down to about 17hz. This makes a pretty good blend from the room(far field subs)to the couch. I’d like tune it further, but the laptop that rew and minidsp is on… took a dump. It’s good for now.

I'd love to check out your setup man and watch a banger of a movie after some headbanging music!

The inner tube is so clever! Did you come up with that?

Seriously, I have no life.

I suppose they might be a poor substitute for proper bass. However large organs make my liver vibrate and shake the whole floor and my chair. When the teenagers play movies with explosions the furniture rattles downstairs. It does not have to be that loud. That is with a system not using actual sub drivers, although there are four potent ten inchers with an F3 of 20 Hz. Mind you those TLs have a unique way of connecting with the space. No idea what a butt kicker might do, but it puts me in mind of the line in the Flanders and Swan Song, "A Song of Reproduction". The said line is:- "What have you got? Flutter on your Bottom!" That was a song about audio enthusiasts at the dawn of Hi-Fi audio around 70 years ago. You can find the whole song and others on line from their classic show at Drury Lane, "At the Drop of a Hat." If alive now, they would have a field day with "Butt Kickers!"

No I definitely can’t take credit for that. It actually added a lot to the experience. Took away the sharpness, but kinda made the couch floatier.

My theater being on my second floor of my house, and the fact that there is little to nothing between floors to deaden sound, means that I get a LOT of tactile feedback from my 4 subs.

I get how that could be appealing if you don't get that much. The ground shaking under you is an interesting sensation.

Ime what’s interesting is suspended floors tend to make taming bass difficult while getting satisfactory TR on concrete is very difficult. For those that only have experience on one floor type it’s hard to understand the other side.

Very true. Bass in this theater is much more of a pain than it was in my other house. What's odd is that my last theater was also on the second floor, but wasn't nearly as hollow as my current floor. I plan to fix that once I rip up the carpet and attempt to fix the lack of insulation between floors.

Thanks lazy builder.

It’s always amazing to me how much the room is responsible for.
