Movies that are so bad they're good.

This.
More camp than anything else. Paul Verhoeven is way too clever by far in his approach to the film. And I don't call it that lightly. But that's the thing with PV's work is that he gets in the way of his own work and its success.

And in a way not too far off Heinlein's vision I think :)

I think you got it. Yeah, Rocky Horror and TFE aren't completely inept and have moments of real competence. Watch the very fist video I posted and you'll get the idea. You don't even have to watch it all the way through.
The unintentionally bad requirement rules out a lot of movies. I thought TFE was just bad the first time I saw it, but the second time the tongue in cheek/campy/cheesy aspects of it "clicked" for me. I actually like the movie just for the entertainment value.

The only other movie that comes to mind as possibly qualifying for SBIG status is Starship Troopers, but it seems as if it's mostly just mediocre (after I typed that I see it has already been nominated).

The Steven Seagal Movies seem to be drifting towards SBIG territory, but I doubt that any have truly arrived.

I'm feeling dead inside after so many of my favorite sci-fi's are being called bad.

Unfortunately, @Eppie , I'm with you. It's a shame that Sci Fi and Fantasy are seemingly so difficult to do well. But Event Horizon, Fifth Element, Starship Troopers, and even the original Total Recall (another PV effort) all start falling into that category.

Some of the ones I've picked aren't bad per say just so over the top and campy and just out there and cheesy that in spite of all of that they somehow work and I love them

I'm not sure if Strange Brew is a good movie attempting to be bad or if it's a bad movie made by mad genius.

Red referenced a perfect SBIG Movie.

Trailer:

Everything depicted on the poster does happen in the movie, for better or worse...

It has all of the hallmarks. Terrible plot, terrible acting, terrible direction and cinematography, a lead actor who barely speaks English... it's a total trainwreck. They really tried to make a hard hitting action flick with heart, but ended up getting laughed out of hollywood and the film sat on a shelf for years before being rediscovered and viewed under a different light.

Now it has legitimately become famous for how epicly it fails. When Drafthouse Films saw potential for the interest in it and wanted to pick it up for distribution, they contacted the director/lead actor, Woo-sang Park, about the rights and he hung up on them because he thought he was being pranked. He didn't think anyone would seriously want to distribute it. Now people have bad movie watch parties around movies like this where they just laugh at it and have a good time. It does have a Rocky Horror vibe to it in that way I s'pose, but these types of films are a whole different thing.

Oh and btw, they're all orphans, black belts in Tai Kwon do, in a band, and they end up fighting a drug dealing ninja biker gang.
