Ya, those pepper extracts are insane. The companies that use them to make those extreme sauces basically require you to suit up before handling them... not quite full biohazard style, but a video tour of Dave's Insanity company showed them adding it to a vat of sauce and the guy put on a tyvec suit and full respirator...
Consider what happens when you go pee after cutting a jalepeno without washing first!
Ummm well about that… lol.

Years ago my wife and I were making salsa and she learned the hard way about wearing gloves. Those were just jalapeños too.

Oh yeah. I have some birds eye chilis too. Gonna try to make some sweet spicy Asian sauce with those. Mmmmmmm

Also. Since we’re totally derailed…
My 14yo twin son has a friend over. He was feelin tough and want to try a ghost pepper. I cut off a piece that was smaller, much smaller than a diamond stud earring. and gave them each half of that. They been chugging milk for five minutes. Lmao.

Too bad milk doesn’t help. Nor water.

Give them some vodka to swish with… just make certain they don’t swallow!

(The alcohol acts as a solvent for the capsaicin oils.)

Well I figured I’d let it burn a little. A little humility goes a long way to build character. Eeeeville lol.
They lived.
I have beer. And Jim Beam so I’m safe.

My advice is to skip the Denon and get something that has Dirac Bass Control. That cab independently equalize four subs. That will make a much bigger difference than the brand you choose. In fact, stop looking to spend so much on subs but rather look for something that has Dirac Bass Control. The Monolith HTP-1 has Dirac Bass Control with enough outputs to control up to five subs. Too bad it's not going to be in stock for a while. Arcam's AVR series has Dirac Bass Control. Here is something that should work great for that.

If your friend cares about sound quality, stay away from Audyssey and go for Dirac Live with Bass Control. The subwoofers won't matter as much, in fact, go for a cheaper sub to get a more expensive AVR. You might just look at getting four Monolith 15" THX Ultras. That will give you all the output you will ever want and terrific sound quality, and four of them with Dirac's Bass Control should be able to net you pretty much a perfect sound so long as you use some good sense in placement.
Not possible as its not only the cost of Arcam AV40 that needs to be considered but also the additional amplifiers. Price gonna go waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up. Not possible.

Do you own Dirac Bass Control via the Monolith now yourself? What other units offer that tech? Anything from miniDSP?

Can't he just get the Denon and use a minidsp? That will work almost or as well as the Dirac right?

Dirac is just different from Audyssey's way of doing things, some say it's superior (like shadyJ). It does appear to cost one a significant amount over a Denon 3700/4700 plus some help with a miniDSP (and there are miniDSPs Dirac enabled, don't think I've seen a mention of this Bass/sub oriented feature, tho). I've read that Dirac generally wasn't as good with subs, but seems this particular release of Dirac addresses that? I'm behind on my Dirac reading :)

The Monoprice pre-pro for $4k isn't horrible, but adding the 11 or 13 channels of amps could add up....

Yes that is the issue. Even if I purchase cheapest 2ch crown amps it will cost $300 x 6 = $1800 so that will be $5.8K From $2K to $5.8 K is almost 3 times the price. I guess he would be better off spending that extra $2K+ somewhere else. That is considering him purchasing 6 amps which I doubt he will. Probably settle for 2-4 amps for now.

Who is this for? Missed that part....

Curious, why the consideration of the 4700 over the 3700 particularly?

Would like to have Auro 3D as an option. Initially was also going for it as it had higher power output. But now I guess mostly be running Amps. Lets see. But yeah main point was Auro 3D.

For a friend.

The power output difference is less than 1 dB for spl between 3700 and 4700, and of course would matter even less if using external amps....you might like this discussion, too https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/denon-3700-and-4700-have-the-same-amplifier-boards.27642/

Can't say I'm up on Auro3D altho I thought it was more a european thing for content, or is it a desired upmixer or ?

It is said to have the ability to upmix any Atmos DTS-X or even regular 5.1 mixes to make them utilize over head channels. So from the info I picked it has the ability to improve on poor Atmos mixes while not doing much on good ones. So yeah wanted to have it as a Bonus. Who knows may end up using it more than we initially thought.

Upmix an Atmos or DTS:X mix? Eh? Dolby Surround could also be used for overheads....or DTS' Neural:X...

Don't know they say it's algo outputs more data for overheads to work with. It picks up what is available on surrounds and uses that data to add to overheads when the provided data is insufficient. What Dolby Surround and DTS Neural X does is to work on that limited or insufficient data available for overheads and spread across multiple overhead channels. They don't add to or generate the lacking data.

That is what it is for my understanding based on few reviews I checked so far. Will do more research.

Pretty sure Auro just mirrors the bed layer into the height layer but then adds some artificial reverb. Not much of an algorithm imo. From my understanding, it’s not very useful on movies. But many love it for upmixing music. Imo, implementing an Auro layout that would be a compromise to Atmos and dtsX tracks/layouts, to upmix Atmos and dtsX is a waste. Especially since there is very little native Auro content. And it’s largely only available over seas.
