Pro Logic IIx may as well (as opposed to just 2.0) indicate an upmix from basic 5.1 (as PLIIx is a 7ch mode), which can make sense as many streams are only 5.1 but if playing a 7.1 bluray wouldn't make sense....

And boom, just like that the "problem" was fixed. I actually watched Black Widow on Disney + last night (that's what my company was here for) but didn't have time to fiddle with/change any settings.

We watched it and it sounded great, but I thought I'd left it on 9 Channel stereo. Turns out, I'd left it on Dolby Pro Logic II (Movie). I'm in there now just trying out the different Dolby modes and it sounds amazing.

Thanks for all the hints, help and suggestions guys. I'm super excited now to watch another movie in here tonight.
Nice! I have had a center channel die actually before. I lucked out that a forum member, Peng nailed it after a short PM thread. I had almost mentioned it but since your center was new, I figured that couldn’t be it. :). Anyhow glad it’s all working!

My 2060 is only 2 years newer than yours so I was really hoping nothing was wrong on your 2040. :)

I keep coming back to this thread and am glad the Center Channel problem was easily solved. Had a suggestion for the projector. The Yamaha isn't going to pass a 4K image from a device that is HDCP 2.2 so streams are going to go over at 1080p when using the Fire TV. To see how it looks when 4K HDR actually makes it to the screen, try hooking the Fire TV up directly to the projector to check it out and see if it passes a 4K HDR signal. If so, you will want to keep it that way. But, the projector does not support ARC, the Yamaha does not support 4K HDR from HDCP 2.2 devices and the Fire TV has but one HDMI output for audio and video. I'd suggest an HDMI extractor to get the video to the projector and send the audio to the Yamaha. This way, DD+/atmos tracks will still get to the Yamaha and 4K HDR will make its way to the projector. Just something you can play around with while you wait for the mic.

Awesome. Thanks for that. I'll check it out when I get home from work this afternoon.

My new YPAO microphone arrived today. 1 day earlier than they said it would (gotta love Amazon). I did the calibration, but it set all of the speakers to large. Should I reset them to small, or leave as is?

YPAO does that often. Speakers that can dig down to 40Hz or lower might get a large assignment. You might try 80Hz to start and take it from there.

With a sub the general recommendation is to set speakers to small (i.e. use bass management) and agree an 80hz xover is a good start, but experiment up and down from there, too. Many avrs if they detect an f3 of 40hz they'll set the speakers set to large (i.e. do not use bass management).

Set all to small start at a crossover at 80 hz for all then see how it sounds on movies, music !

Since I'm a new guy to all of this, what would be the advantage/disadvantage to having them set to either large or small? Or does it really make much of a difference one way or the other?

The advantage is you’ll have bass management and you can send deep bass to your subs and your other speakers can’t more than likely handle that plus it frees up your amps in the receiver or outboard amps to run better . Plus it will intergrate the sound better with cleaner bass and better highs and mids .

I reset the speakers to small and set the crossovers to 80hz, YPAO had them all at 40hz. I was watching Black Widow when I did it. First ~half of the the movie on the YPAO settings, 2nd half after I changed it. It may have sounded better with the YAPO settings. I'll just have to keep playing around with it and see.

Now also try 60hz and 100hz crossovers still set to small....differences can be subtle, too. What's your mix of speakers/subs again?
