If money were no object and you just had to get the best AVR

I will take an RX-A3080 for demo purposes if you had one. Haha. need to see this Yamaha superiority myself.
Well, each camp (DM vs Y) appeals to a different crowd.

Y: Manual Parametric EQ, less heat, equivocally better reliability, better wifi remote app, flagship models a lot less expensive (RX-A3080, CX-A5200)

DM: Better Auto EQ, flagship models a lot more expensive (X8500, AV8805)

Well, personally I recommend to everyone to get the Yamaha RX-A3080 over the X-8500. But only half of them listen to me. :D
That because you're selling them? :) I'd take the 8500 over the 3080 if anything just because of familiarity....don't want to learn "Yamaha" now (and suspect I'd still prefer Audyssey over YPAO).

Most dealers want to sell the much MORE expensive models and make MORE money, not sell the much less expensive models and make less money. :D

Indeed at the price you posted in your recent ad, seems you're not shooting for the highest profit margin possible in this time of limited availability.

I guess that's the way it should be. Not to repeat myself, I like and own Yammaha, but I've noticed it's for different reasons. I also think Yamaha could make an outstanding "money-no-object" AVR, but just don't. There's an interesting video from Gene on YouTube where he touches on the subject of manufacturers giving up on persuading people and changing their mind since, as they say, it's slow, hard and money-devouring task. They simply decided they can spend money better on further development. While Denon decided to try and make an "audiophile AVR" whatever that may mean to someone.

Never even knew there were camps. I always thought; well that's just a couple of companies that are equally good with some minor differences which are mostly UI related, like swipe from left to right or from right to left. :)

Well my RX-A1080 sounds wonderful, yamahas really put down quite a lot of bass. I can't imagine how good the RX-A3080 would be with its ESS Sabre pro DAC. In my opinion it would be the best for the price.

I can't say the same for any other brand.

You can get a 225W Buckeye stereo NC252MP, XLR inputs (Neutrik), 12v trigger, Power LED = $499 shipped

That's a great find, but it still exceeds his $400 top budget by 25%! And it is diy right, that may be a show stopper for a lot of people. All moot anyway because Mr. OCD has already specified the need for it to be made by Yamaha.:D

Ask for the X8500H too so you can do a sighted comparison, and promise him you will post your unbiased finding.;)

Haha, sure! I think he could swing an X8500H for demo purposes. Since I own a Pioneer Elite, everything I post about Yamaha, Denon or Marantz will be 100% unbiased. Haha.

Yamaha currently sell $7K Analog Integrated amps, $10K Analog amps, and $10K Analog pre-amps in the USA.

Yamaha probably think an “AVR” is always gonna be an AVR no matter how much it retails. Instead, they choose to put their ultra high-end toward analog preamps, amps, and integrated amps.

2 different philosophies IMO.

Seriously tell me what does that X8500H offer for $4000 over the Yamaha RX-A3080? Just more channels?

If you had asked me the question over 8 years ago why I bought the $5500 Denon AVR-5308CI, I probably would have said, "Because I felt like it and because I could."

And then if you had asked me, "Well, why the hell did you buy the AVR-5308CI and then buy the AVP-A1HDCI a few months later?"

I would have probably said, "Well duh, it's because I still could."

I've done dumber things like when I bought the Revel Salon2, B&W 802D2, Linkwitz Orion3.2.1, KEF 201/2, and other speakers concurrently.

I don't feel that it's about being "worth" the extra money.

It could be viewed as being foolish, lavish, or whatever.

Some people want to spend their money.

I just sold a pair of Legacy Audio Aeris that retail $25K. Is it worth $20K more than some speakers that cost $5K? To my client, hells yes. :D

Is the X8500 worth an extra $2K over the RX-A3080? To us, hells no. You could buy two RX-A3080 or get the CX-A5200 + MX-A5200.

Do you guys remember the $5500 Yamaha RX-Z11? That beast could output almost 400 Watts X 2Ch into 4 ohms! :D

That's what I call a high-end beast!

So Yamaha has had their share of $5500 AVR. :D

Haha love it! "Because I can!" Damn right! We should go ask all those fools who purchase Wilson Audio products why they spend over $200-$300k on a pair of speakers. Do they sound $200k better over the $30k B&W 800 D3's??? I don't know, but I can tell you what their response would be. "Go F yourself, peasant." Haha!

It's awesome that you at one point in your life owned all those audio products. At least you can comment and have first hand experience with all those products. To educate others who are interested. I hope I can do something similar in the future. Purchase and demo. So I can have a better understanding of each product to give my unbiased opinion on this stuff. :D
