Our system is a joke. I pay $298/month for insurance for my wife and I for a HDHP with HSA. My company pays 75% of the premium, so that comes out to $1192 a month total. Then on top of that, we have a $4,000 deductible. So, in one year, the total cost to my employer and myself before the insurance company pays a dime is $18,304. There's a more expensive plan ($510/month my cost, so $2040/ month total) with a lower deductible($1000), but it has a higher total cost for the year (if you get to the max out of pocket) and less out of network coverage.
My wife and I are in a similar boat. We're on federal employee benefits, and for total value an HSA/HD plan is the best option. Of course, you've got to be able to swallow a pretty significant deductible before coverage begins, unless you really think you're not going to use the insurance beyond preventative care. These plans also make the most sense for people who make an additional HSA contribution up to the maximum, because the contributions are an income credit, not just a deduction. If you do get a big surprise, like a medical emergency and you end up with a bunch of out of network expenses, the result can be breathtaking to the unprepared or the unable. (The maximum out of pocket, including out of network expenses can be... I can't remember exactly... something like $13,000.)

This is why I'd like to see a government option for healthcare insurance, bundled with the ability to negotiate with providers and drug companies, just like the private insurers do. The resulting data would be fascinating.

On a day in the USA when
  • There has been a total of 10,871,462 Covid-19 cases, with more than 184,000 new Covid-19 cases, setting a record for the 4th day in a row
  • There have been 245,495 Covid-19 deaths, with more than 1,400 deaths yesterday
  • 130 Secret Service officers, or about 10% of the executive security team, were under quarantine or had tested positive for Covid-19
The so-called Million MAGA March on Washington drew crowds that appear to be much less than the name implies. Preliminary estimates of the crowd size was well below a million, perhaps 5,000 to 10,000.

Few if any of these marchers wore masks. Perhaps they are trying to emulate the Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD.

Too bad it doesn't wipe out the stupid at a higher proportion....
It does .. By virtue of the fact that they don't wear masks... Those that wear masks have a lower infection rate , at least that's the latest trend i heard

No .as Forrest said.. Stupid is as stupid does...Edit .. This is highly generalized, but i know ( even though it's not possible to prove) that dumb people have a higher mortality rate than the intelligent.... I'm doomed...

Yikes $13k is nuts, our out of pocket max with the HDHP/HSA is $7,000. Our company also deposits $1k into our HSA accounts at the beginning of the year, so that helps quite a bit. I know earlier this year I had a shock when all my allergy injection serums got remade in February and suddenly I was looking at a $1500 bill! The system is nuts in terms of what we get (or don't) for what we pay.

I reposted this because I dunno how to explain the level of dumb with a straight face. The host says this...

Stewart: He (Trump) exaggerates and spins.
Later...
Stewart: No I don't think he's ever lied.

Great analysis by a lady on CNN: Trump spreads hate to divide the country which makes his MAGAs dependent upon him. His many golf trips are used as business tax write offs. Though I suppose no real suprise.

well there you go.. the realization that it's congress + the billionaire class that's the problem.. well done...
I have said that for a long time. The problem is that people don't vote turds out of office. Here's the list I posted awhile back about members of Congress with 40+ years in office since the first Congress convened in 1789- in this group of 29, nineteen started serving in 1970-

seems with congessional voters the thought is: "everybody else's sux , but mine is bringing home the pork..."
