I wouldn't worry about the HDMI issue too much as @gene stated, it's only for the VRR stuff (IIRC) and everything in your chain has to be compatible or it doesn't matter.

It is very cool tech though. I've got it on my PC monitor and I wouldn't go back to a static refresh rate again.

I would love to open it and set it up but it will be another 2 months before the construction is done on my house remodel.

You joke (maybe?), but he should at least open it and make sure it works. That would be an expensive woops.

Yes you should....have read several times of folk who received it, put it away until after normal returns are possible only to have issues.....
