So, I preordered the A110. I’m building a new home theater. My old receiver was a sony ES digital drive 15 years old. When I found out about the issues with the bug in the HDMI chip I contacted Denon via email about it and I contacted Crutchfield where I ordered it.
I actually spoke with a customer service rep andask him to check with Denon concerning this matter and to not ship the receiver until we had and answer. He told me it was not scheduled to ship until Nov 14th.
so, my door bell just rang and there’s the ups guy with my receiver. No one ever got back to me. So what to do. Keep it for the sound quality and work around the chip or send it back. I’m not a big gamer but I use Xbox for streaming. I do play some but just by myself. I have an oppo 205 for music and playing movie on blue ray. But the big thing is what has happened to customer service and people doing what they say they will do. Frustrating!!!’

Well, according to the specs it should be better than the 8500. And to me it sounds pretty damn good. With music and movies.

But how much better than the 8500 or even the 3600 for that matter. Did you really hear it just because a special Denon designer designed it

Ok, I didn’t state my last post so it was clear. I have not unboxed the 110. I was talking about the 8500 sounded really good to me. I listened to it at a dealer with Polk Ls speakers.

If you're not a next Gen gamer, you should never have an HDMI issue. Also, I heard that Denon will be supporting ALL HDMI 2.1 problematic receivers in the future with either a hardware update or trade in. A110 is a beast. Enjoy it!

Thanks. Hopefully they will follow through with that.

According to what specs? The price?

What other specs would contribute to sound quality? THD? SNR?

Let’s say the A110 somehow has a THD of 0.0006% and the X8500 has a THD of 0.0007%, would you hear the difference? :D

He's probably talking about this

"After speaking with Denon we got clarification that the A110 does give you a specially tuned receiver by Denon Master Engineer Takahashi, Yuuki, a 5 year warranty (up from 3 years on the X8500H), and upgraded components in key areas that affect sound quality like specialized capacitors, lower impedance traces, and a more rigid chassis"

Yep, each of the Denon and Marantz's "sound engineers" (wonder if they are licensed?) apparently tuned their products using some sort of PEQ and/or tune control modules, and/or harmonic injection/mixers to achieve the intended "sound signatures" of their own, such as punchier, brighter for Denon, warmer, more musical, for Marantz. They presumably have done extensive studies to find out how many people would prefer the Denon sound and how many the Marantz sound..:D:D. I guess I am just guessing though..;):p.

If I guess wrong then I have no idea how they could come up with such unique sound signatures for each (never mind comparing to other brands such as Yamaha, Sony and Pioneer's, when D and M's have virtually identical power amps, and preamp/processor section except one has the HDMI unity gain buffer stage that is just a buffer, not an equalizer.

I bought the $5500 Denon AVR-5308CI brand new some years ago.

This year I sold the AVR-5308CI for $1000 and used that money to buy a much less expensive flagship AVR.

I bet you got a lot of enjoyment from it over the years. I’m 57. I am hopeful this will be my last purchase as far as an AVR goes. I will not be going beyond what this one has to offer.

LOL that's what I keep telling myself even to I'm several years older than you. I'm fine with 1080p and non-Atmos....as long as everything stays backwards compatible?

I enjoyed bragging to my friends that I owned a $5500 AVR and $7500 AVP. :D
