Fist post here. Couldn't find a similar question via search so hopefully this is ok.
I'm upgrading from an onkyo S3400 (HTIB 5.1 package with HT-R390 receiver) that has succumbed to what I think is the HDMI controller issue that seems to plague Onkyo's.
I have an opportunity to buy the Yamaha V585 for $500 (which is $100 off its current sale price) but have heard good things about the Denon 750H. I plan to keep my existing speakers as I can't afford to replace them. I believe the speakers have an impedance rating of 6 Ohms so will have to use both receivers in 6 Ohm mode. I plan to use it for gaming, music and movies/tv.
I'd much prefer to buy the yamaha as I can buy it at a local retail shop and support their employees with commission (and don't have to deal with refurbished device concerns or shipping/handling issues). This isn;t the case with the denon.
1) Are there any stark differences that I will notice between the 2 receivers? Considering my speakers aren't amazing (but good enough for me) I can't see the receiver making a massive difference. However, I do have Audyssey dynamic eq on my current Onkyo, and think it makes audio sound much better and more immersive. Since the Yamaha V585 doesn't have this but the denon does, will I really miss it? The reddit/r/hometheatre makes it seem like a must have feature. But I am in no way an audiophile.
2) With my 6 Ohm speakers will I have any issues with the impedance ratings on either receiver? I believe the Yamaha has a min impedance rating of 6, while the Denon is 4 Ohms. I will also occasionally use my Sennheiser 590's instead of my speakers. Would either receiver offer differences here?
3) Based on the following planned setup:
Xbox one X---> HDMI1 on receiver
PC -->HDMI2 on receiver via (GTX1070 HDMI2.0b) for video + optical to receiver (via MSI x570 gaming edge motherboard) for audio***
Cable box--> HDMI3 on receiver
Receiver HDMI out-->HDMI1 on Vizio M Series 2017 TV (full bandwidth HDMI 2.0 arc enabled port that outputs at 4k 60Hz 4:4:4)
***I have sort of a weird setup with my PC. Right now its connected to the HDMI2 port on my TV for video (that only does 4k 60Hz 4:4:2 and causes HDR issues) and I run optical to my onkyo receiver for audio. I like this setup cause I have custom Dolby audio drivers/enhancements on my PC thats linked to the optical port. I'm not sure if it'll work via the HDMI on my graphics card. But if it does then on my new receiver I will run HDMI to the receiver and scrap the optical.
do you see any issues? Of particular importance is minimized input lag for gaming. I've read that receivers in 4k passthrough mode will have negligible input lag. Is this true? If so would either receiver cause issues in this regard?
3b) Would I be able to get audio from my Smart TV apps (ie netflix) sent to my receiver from the TV via ARC with the proposed setup?
Thanks
