Are These Finds Good Deals?

I just stumbled across these on LetGo for $150. It's a 5.0 "Kef Q Series" set. 2 BS, 2 surrounds and a center. That's all the info listed and this is the only image. Normally I'd have dismissed this one but you know, "Kef"... I'm just not familiar with their stuff and don't know if these are turds or what, lol.

Think of Q series equivalent at their release date. IIRC Q series might have replaced them.

Those are Q series, equipped with a Uni-Q driver of one or two generations before the iQ series that introduced the "Tangerine Waveguide" over the tweeter done. They're pretty good, just not as refined as the newer versions in terms of HF dispersion.

Seems like a helluva good deal!

EDIT: They are the first of two "iQ" series, and were sold in 2006-2008. The previous Q series didn't have two sizes of bookshelf speakers. The smaller bookshelf are iQ1, the larger is iQ3, and the center appears to be the larger iQ6c. The "Tangerine Waveguide was introduced on the 2098-2011 iQxx series. After those was the 2011-2016 Qx00 series, now it's the Qx50 series.

A few others caught my eye too, like these Paradigm Mini Monitors for $120. Don't think the stands come with tho.

A set of (3) Infinity Beta 20s for $100, no grilles, and I just now noticed a broken waveguide in one of the images...

Infinity Primus 250 towers, C25 center, and RS1 bookshelf speakers. That's a 5.0 set for $175.

I'd take that KEF 5.0 set for $150 over any of those others, but that's me. ;)

but you know, "Kef"...
Well if you bought them you actually would, you know, "Kef" ...

It sounded funny in my head.

I don't know KEF either but the Primus 2-way center is a peach and I had a lot of fun with the 250's as well. Too bad about the busted way guide though. The Betas were the next step up from the Primus line. Still a steal.

I have fond memories of the Paradigm Mini-Monitors as being one of the earlier speakers I listened to and liked the sound of, but they are really not special in any general sense, certainly not in the same league as the DCM's!
I would cross them off the list.
I would also cross the Infinity Primus off the list. I see $175 as a reasonable (but not "buy it and make a profit!) price for them. They were the standard bearer for a budget tower before the Andrew Jones Pioneers were on the scene. Also, I'm not really keen on buying a 5 speaker set for my hobby unless it is such a deal that I know I can flip it or I have a pre-determined destination. It is harder to sell a 5.0 setup and I usually don't bother with setting up anything but the mains for my "hobby experience" in 2.0 or 2.2 stereo anyway. Lastly, given that the Betas are a step up and 3/$100, they would nudge out the Primus for me! Not saying the Betas are worth getting, just saying I would get them before the Primus.

i would stay away from the paradigms.they were great little speakers in their day.unfortunately the tweeters had a tendency to leak ferrofluid and often had to be replaced.

Thanks guys! That's why I post these finds here.

@KEW I'm with you on buying 5.0 speaker sets to fuel my hobby, but not being familiar with the brands I want to make sure I'm not glossing over something really cool. I'm glad we have a shared point of reference with the DCMs.

Those infinity Bookshelf (black/Grey) I had about 3-4 years ago, but it was rolled off treble. I sold them after 2 weeks. Z cautioned me about them, but still got them cause I got a great deal. Now I listen to Master Z zen! :D :cool:DCM definitely are way better.

DCM over both Infinity Primus and Beta, and Paradigm Monitor -- KEF makes some nice stuff, but I am not a big fan of their earlier stuff -- but the KEF package is a real good price.

I want those m2’s sooo bad. The 308’s are a good deal too. IMO.
Also, my buddy has a pair of 310’s. He loves them. They’re similar to my s312’s. Northridge VS StudioII.

I thought they looked similar to yours and was wondering if the were the same.

Going from the pic with both, this looks like it might be the same dude with the M2s, as that looks like what's between them.

A pair of (2) Seaton Sound F18+'s for $3600. Both are master subs and come with the 4000 watt amp.

You should offer 15k for the M2’s. That looks like a good deal on the seatons too.

Yes, they're definitely the nicest I've come across and are actually good deals but waaaayyy out of my budget range, lol. I keep hoping to stumble across a pair of Infinity Kappa 8s or something for $50.
