HD gives you a bit of a starting point to go by above with a couple of different manufacturers. I too would suggest starting out small with a nice 2.0 or 2.1 system and build from there. A decent AVR and stereo pair of good speakers would be your starting point. £800 is a little lean with a subwoofer on top of that, but you can pick that up a little later and I'll bet a good pair of speakers will still outperform your current setup. Would you be looking to get into a surround sound setup (5.1-7.1, etc.) down the road?

I'd be a whole lot more help if I were more familiar with the market across the pond there, lol.

Thanks, No I'm not too bothered about surround sound. Recommendations for a good AVR and speakers would be good to start with.

Well, that separates term isn't quite right, that's a term referring to separating the pre-amp from amplifier and tuner into separate units and would add quite a bit to your expense; an AVR (audio video receiver) would be more cost effective....brands like Denon, Marantz, Pioneer, Onkyo/Integra and Yamaha offer avrs that would work well, maybe even Cambridge Audio there. Speaker choices there maybe check out Q-Acoustics, Tannoy, Wharfdale to start. You have a good sub company in BK Elec there in the UK. You may want to start smaller, like with a 2.0 or 2.1 system and build from there rather than go too cheap on speakers/sub to start. Maybe @Andrein or others in your area can give you some shopping ideas....
Thanks. Yes I've checked out a few AVRs now and speakers too, and found some good reviews. For speakers, "What Hifi" recommend the Wharfedale DX-2 5.1 system but the price seems too good to be true

It might be good for the low low price but that doesnt mean its good enough to give you what you are looking for.

I personally think that site is bollocks, bunch of wankers generally (my brit way of saying it). That's a very lightweight speaker system. The satellites use tiny 3" drivers and the sub is only an 8" with a rather poor frequency response. I'd look at speakers with at least 5-6" bass/mid-bass drivers, and subs no smaller than 10". I probably wouldn't consider Wharfdale for subs but I may not be familiar with all their offerings (they're not a very big brand here in the US). Or is there a particular reason you're looking at very small speakers?

Thanks. I'm happy to send the HW-N850 back and go for a separates system for the TV and also music. I sit 3m from the TV. The room is 6m x 6m. Budget £500 - £800. What would you recommend/
The site is ligit it’s cheaper then anything I’ve seen I’ve never ordered thofrom ac4less people say it’s good that’s about all.
Buy full sized speakers for that room no satellite..... go big as you can go big or go home
Get at least a decent Avr with enough power handling . Don’t need separate at that budget your going to struggle , my bedroom system was more then 800 Euros. And it’s a budget set up !
I’m uncertain why a soundbar would even be purchased if it’s that large of a room .tower speakers , all the way around or towers in front bookshelves in backs , sides is way to go in bigger rooms . One massive sub or two average sized ones works .

Good luck !!!
