Sound United has announced the termination of the agreement to acquire Pioneer & Onkyo's home audio division, announcing in a statement that the two companies have "mutually agreed" not to complete the deal. The acquisition plans were 1st revealed back in May, but it has since become apparent "that all of the necessary closing conditions could not be satisfactorily achieved".

It seems like a good thing.

I don't like the idea of so many big brands being handled by one company. Sounds too much like Wal-mart.

It's one of the reasons I buy brands like Anthem and RBH. Great products from both brands, and they're standalone companies. I hope they never get bought out. I like to support the relatively "little guys" who make really top quality products with high integrity.

IMHO...
In certain ways, I think it is good as Sound United already has (2) AVR brands and adding a few more will only confuse the market diluting the value of the respective brands.. However having an inside line, I learned that a major motivating objective of Sound United of the deal was to get access to their own factory.... Presently the majority of Marantz and Denon AVRs are assembled/outsourced by the Sherwood factory in Vietnam. This would have allowed United Audio to decrease their FOB costs without paying a % markup to the assembling factory. Also the primary owned factory of Onkyo/Integra is in Malaysia, which has number of advantages including; production lines outside of China away from its internal politics and Trump tariffs, and access to certain crucial Japanese internal component suppliers based in Malaysia....

I am happy as I love my Integra and especially its features which I was worried would change. However, an increase in buyer power can mean better pricing so that could have been a positive.

I actually feel that there is too many brands out there and makes shopping more difficult than it needs to be. Not a popular opinion I’m sure, but there it is!

Understood, but Paradigm and Martin Logan don't make AVRs.
