I'm wondering if this means that there will be 0 new JVC projectors introduced at CEDIA? I'll know next week when I get over to the JVC booth.

JVC isn't always an annual company with their projectors. I certainly hope they don't bring anything new out right now. From a recent TVS video I saw, I wasn't sure if they fixed the scaling issues they have had with their 4K models. As well, it seemed to take them half of this year just to get the 4K models out to consumers.

About the best I could dream of is them reaching out with a sub $3K model LCoS model to compete with Epson and all the DLPs out there. For the rest, it seems like the next most appealing upgrade would be to switch to a solid state light engine. Dump the lamp! Give us all a 20,000+ projector. This is getting to be more and more overdue in the home theater market as it becomes more and more standard in the mid-level+ commercial market. I think I see about 2/3 or more of our commercial installations use solid state light engine projectors. (for those that still use projectors)

I would love for JVC to lead the way with solid state light engines rather than be years behind everyone else. It would really give them more of a market edge.

There will be a new one from JVC. It's a lazer driven DLP model, though. No new LCoS units yet.

Oh geez... WHO CARES?

Answer: I DO!!!!

Really, JVC getting their hands into the solid state engine muck with their DLP models is a great way to not tarnish their LCoS reputation and since they have very little in the way of a DLP reputation to screw with, they can really play with these models and get things right. I'm not at all interested in buying one, but would love to see one in action.

I upgraded my projector last year from an Epson 5020UB to a JVC RS540 (X790) and the difference was more than I expected, especially black levels (which were already more than adequate) and color density (in BT2020 color space). The resolution upgrade from 1080p to 4K was noticeable, but I think most of the difference was in the better optics causing fewer color aberrations and less smearing in the corners. The RS540 is an eshift model, so the panel is still a native 1080p.

I had the projector professionally calibrated in three modes: SDR, SDR with BT2020, and HDR. The HDR performance was less eye popping than I expected from a dynamic range standpoint, reflecting the limited nits that can be bounced off a 120" screen in a light controlled room. The colors, though, are truly remarkable. This thing puts out about 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut, so just about any available content can be fully realized in full depth. I found myself staring at the red logo that pops up when I hit the wrong key on a blu ray menu, because the red was sooo red. I thought blu ray rec709 color was really good, and it is, but compared to a BT2020 color space it looks washed out. UHD blu rays and streamed HDR content look real, really real, and it's not due to the resolution.

SDR content was somewhat improved, mostly in black levels being really black instead of a very dark gray, and in the better apparent pixel rendering due to the better optics. Colors and resolution are only slightly improved as a result, since the Epson already does a great job.

I haven't used the SDR 2020 mode much since I don't do any external tone mapping. The JVC already does a good job, especially after calibration, so I haven't felt much need to go to another solution. If my Oppo ever dies, then a Panny will take its place, and the tone mapping will be done there.

What an upgrade!

Have you guys seen “The 100” TV series Season 6?

It has the most colorful and vibrant picture I have ever seen. It’s 1080p SDR, but it looks more like 4K HDR (using Natural Color Setting and Low Lamp Mode).

So if all contents look this vibrant and colorful, I don’t even care for HDR. :D

Remember, HDR and WCG are different! :D

I struggle a bit with HDR and what value it brings to the table. But, I get it. WCG on the other hand is a huge jump for creating a very smooth image. The addition of 10-bit and even 12-bit color is long overdue, but still is difficult to achieve. Not sure what, if anything, actually puts out 12-bit color.

Yes, these projectors deliver when it comes to great color and contrast, and even a good DVD still can look amazing. But, we will need brighter projectors (laser) to really get the brightness needed for excellent HDR, and to see what 10-bit and 12-bit color space really can deliver.

The future is always a few years away with projectors it seems.

How about a UST LCoS projector with a laser light source and a UST ALR screen? Sounds like a sick setup to me!

I'm wondering if when projectors are capable of really high dynamic range and wide color at an affordable price, we'll see wall displays capable of the same performance for the same or less money, and it won't matter anymore. And then projectors go the way of rear projection TVs after affordable plasmas took over.

RS620 owner here and love my projector. JVC just dominates when it comes to black levels.

Glad I stayed out of the new models with the lesser black levels and all sorts of other issues. My policy is to always avoid launch models so everyone else can sort through the growing pains. Never early adopt!

I am not experiencing any issues with my JVC NX5, which I bought around May 9, 2019.

What kind of issues are people experiencing?

Oh my gosh...... tons.

Yellowing with text, DI noise, vertical blue lines, one-minute delay for startup, long delay syncing issues, etc..

A fairly high percentage of units.

Wow. Hopefully they have that fixed.

Maybe JVC did more changes from the previous models, but I was thinking the difference was just upgrading from 2K to 4K. :D

My RS540 does have a long delay switching resolutions, maybe 10-15 seconds. It's annoying but it's not something that comes up all that often. We just press pause right away when it does that, and patiently wait for the picture to come back before pressing play again. I wish they'd fix that but it's not a large price to pay for such a nice picture.

That's normal. My 620 does that, too.

The new ones are said to be over a minute, especially on start up.

So far I haven’t seen any of those things you mentioned on my NX5, so hopefully never will.

Wow. Did JVC say Why?

Good thing my friend got his NX7 a few weeks ago.
