Audyssey just for speaker distances/delay?

I think the $500 and up price point with the ID guys is generally the lower limit, but individual specs are what they are, but you really can't go wrong with any of them. I like the value of the Hsu subs personally. Or DIY, which is what I do.

Good to know you are getting good result using 80 Hz crossover. You mentioned REW, I only use it, and use it extensively to verify my systems FR and distortions in pure direct, and with Audyssey on using different crossover points. REW consistently showed me the best crossover settings for my very bass capable L/R tower and center speaker are 80 or 90 Hz. Anything below that would yield notable poorer results. I guess my room is too much challenge for Audyssey to integrate them as smoothly as it can be.

So giving up the lowest two octaves from the SM65/55, and getting an additional PB1000, or adding a pair of stronger subwoofers (move the little 1000 to somewhere else) is a great idea, as Audyssey XT32 is really good in EQ'ing subwoofers.

Yes- during Audyssey setup.

One definite benefit to having two subs is that they'll have headroom a single sub won't because they aren't working as hard and some of the energy is additive (constructive interference vs destructive interference).

I judged Audyssey way to early because I screwed it up and didn't run the tests right. Now to get a real tripod and do a real deal set up of Audyssey with no one home but me.

Remember to be as far from the sound bubble created by the speakers, too- we absorb a good amount of energy that Audyssey will compensate for. I like to stand between the rear surround speakers (if the system has them) or beyond the side speakers when the system only occupies part of the space. I would worry less about the tripod and more about not interfering with the sound path to the walls and floor. They pack a cardboard mic stand because it's not as important as where the mic goes.

Thanks for the advice. I'm watching a bunch of DD 5.1 trailers I have and it's really quite amazing. Audyssey it's like it has the bass from the SM 65/55 with perfectly blended perfectly with the PB1000. It's almost seamless now. The sound from the speakers are very crisp too now. It's really cool what is going.

I cannot believe I have gone from should I replace my speakers which I have always loved to replace my new receiver to now everything sounds incredible just by rerunning Audyssey and doing it right. I'm beyond impressed.

After the heat in your first post I'm impressed you put it aside and started over. Ya done good! Over the next few months I'll bet you find a few other little tweaks that might improve things even more.

Honestly, I had a similar moment when I jumped from Yamaha to Denon. Things weren't sounding very good and I thought I made a mistake buying Denon. After I went through some menus and turned MultEQ and DEQ on all of a sudden the sun burst through the clouds, my ears were happy and all was right with the world again.

Freaking out? Me too, but I have 5 subs (the front L/R are the big PC12U and PB13U) working with my Veritas 2.3i towers and center, powered by 3 ext power amps controlled by the x4400h that replaced my Marantz AVP. That's a lot of subs for a small 12x20x8 HT room, so there is no lack of smooth bass. I don't know how big your room is, but if your single PB1000 is doing such a great sub with your SM65 and SM55, then regardless of the room size, you must have done a mic perfect job the last time you ran Audyssey setup, good job!

As HD suggested, it may be a good idea to save/back up what you have now before re-running Audyssey so if things don't work out you can restore your mic perfect run. I used the Editor App so it is easy for me to do back up and retrieve. If you ran it directly on the AVR, the procedure may not be so straight forward, but if you run into problem I am sure HD can help you.

Oh man my HT is back! Just watched the opening scene of the new Amazon show Carnivale row and it was amazing! The sound is so crisp, that's the best way I can describe it, crisp. It sound dynamic now and the bass is set very nicely. I'm quite happy now and beyond surprised. I thought a be receiver was in order or maybe a dedicated HT processor from Outlaw Audio. All seems great now.

Your open-mindedness to work on improving what you already have before replacing it, is paying dividend. Probably should just leave things alone, and simply enjoy your nice sounding system now. If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it more..
