It was bound to happen...Epik failed

PSA's SPL numbers aren't comparable. They are using a different benchmark that will allow greater numbers. And their own numbers have always been higher than third party numbers anyway. The basic design differences are informative though. The Empire used light, low-Xmax drivers which gave it huge upper-bass output but relatively constrained deep bass dynamic range. For an alternative to PSA's sealed dual 15", consider a pair of Hsu VTF-3 mk5s. It's roughly the same price, but will blow the doors off the PSA sub in terms of performance.
Problem with that is, I don't really have room for duals that size. On the right side of the system I have a fireplace. Only option would be to stack them and I don't really want a fridge in the corner lol.

ULS-15 is on sale right now, presumably because of the impending dual model. How about 2 of those? Same issue, but almost sounds like I may end up with duals or just have to wait.

I reached the edge of performance and NEED MORE SUBS!!! :p

Yeah, that's not true, lol. Tho that pipe organ number I posted in the subwoofer candy thread did push their limits for the first time since I've had them.

I'm thinking it might be a neat idea to get one as a 3rd and place it on the opposite side of the room from the twins behind us. 2 or 3 months, huh? I might have to start working on the wife now...
I've had thoughts of a 3rd as you probably remember...those desires have waned even though I wouldn't mind a near field 3rd sub....I haven't really pushed mine to the limit.

Getting all the music digitized and into a new streaming device (host) is my next expenditure.

Yeah, I'm not all hardcore on doing it, but a third for nearfield or more balance would be nice. A great deal and a fun project is hard to pass up. I'm picking up on HD considering it (when J ultimately decides what he wants to do) and he already has one. Make a nice matching set for him. If this was another VTF-3 I'd be campaigning a lot harder.

I hadn't realized Rythmik was so close to me. I may have to pay a visit.

Sucks that the Epik died. Have fun demoing new subs. :)

IMHO, if Rythmik is within driving distance, that would clinch it for me!
They have consistently produced great subs, and if you can bypass shipping costs (even if they offer free shipping on a model, I'm sure they will give you a discount if they don't have shipping costs) that makes them high-value!

You should also ask about any b-stock, etc.

Good point. I've been wanting to go the DIY route for one of their driver/amp combos for years, but I'm not a huge fan of all-in-one subs. I like passive subs driven by an external amp.

I have a sub/amp combo for my living room, but haven't had time to build the table it's going to go in so Rythmik isn't out of the question for that build.

Two ULS-15s would match the upper bass output of the Empire while offering a large performance increase below 50 Hz. They would very likely offer a substantial performance advantage over the PSA sealed dual 15" as well. You could always stack the ULS-15s as well. If you were to stack them, I would remove the feet of the top sub, place something over the screw holes to seal them (packing tape would work for that), and then place a rubber liner matt between the subs so that the bottom sub doesn't get scuffed by the top sub.

I built two passive subs and used Rythmik amps with them before, so I know their products and support very well. They were my first site visited when this incident happened actually. I never built one of their subs, but a friend did and the sound quality was impressive. F15HP is still very much at the top of the list.

Shot an email over to Rythmik, I hadn't even thought about their amps. I asked if I got enough info about the sub, if they could help me out with an amp suited to it. Their amps are PEQ already, but seems like they could custom tune one to a sub as well since they do a lot of DIY.

If that doesn't pan out, then it will be either the F15HP or F25 :)

They said no bueno on their amps working with the Empire and recommended the F25.

F25 backordered until end of August.

So looks like the Rythmiks are coming back into stock, except they don't have the matte version of the F25. Picking through the specs and noticed something that may make the F25 not really an option and that is the 170lb weight. I am on the 3rd floor and the Epik was already a bit difficult to move at ~120lbs. So now I am looking at duals and will have to figure out where to put them both. I just need a SUB (or two) lol.

Now leaning toward a SVS SB4000 (Sale!), and I can add a second later. Tried to get a listen at a Best Buy, but those guys never answered the phone so I could find out if they had one in their listening rooms. I will be over in that area this evening and will drop by.

Also there's still the Rythmik F15HP still and E15HP2, depending on how the 4000 sounds (if they have one).

The SVS 4000 series are some pretty awesome subs. If I had the money I would own a pair of any of the higher tier SVS subs.

Eh, the Labor Day clearance was too good and there was a very clean outlet piano gloss one so I went ahead and ordered the SB4000 just now.

Great guys, I think it's basically a 2-man show (maybe more now). Brian is the man, degrees in EE and Acoustic Engineering from USC.

They don't have much to see in the shop. It's one of those commercial/industrial complexes with various businesses, in a kind of seedy neighborhood.

I've had the F15HP for many years, it is a beast!
