On Tuesday, Bad_ben81 revived with his own query. He is the guy with the Altec 19's!

I am sorry to hijack this thread. But would you change your receiver recommendation if I wanted to use just the model 19s as my speakers instead of a 7.1 configuration? I currently have Sony STR DH130 as my receiver, but don't have a good sound from the speakers. I have to raise the volume level to approximately 90% level, and this causes the receiver to crash at times. So I am looking for recommendations for a receiver that can power the altec lansing speakers.
This is his last post:
Hi all, thank you for all the replies. I checked the receiver and couldn't find the speaker channel level. But I found that I could clear all the settings on the receiver. Once I did that, the speakers seemed to sound much louder than before, but the room it used to be in has changed.
Inspite of the louder output from the speakers, I plan to look for a better receiver and moved the Sony receiver to a different room. I shall look for Yamaha, denon or hk receivers in the under $500 range and >135WPC into 8ohms @<1%THDand let you know on what I find before buying it. Thank you all once again for all your help.
Because he is in the Atlanta Area, I sent him a PM and offered to look at his setup and also bring a different receiver for him to try to see if that makes the difference he is hoping for.
He is currently out of town, and that may be why he has not posted since, but we have communicated by phone.

Today you can surely buy a complete used car audio system on local ads for 50 dollars paid by one of your friend and install this in your living room and call all your friends and some respectful neighbors that will bring their complete cd lineup of led zeppelin and grateful dead and maybe if they are still in good shaped form , pantera and nine inchs nail and I also recommend gary numan ' the pleasure principle ' that we don't hear nowhere these days...
He does not have Altecs, and is proposing using a car stereo powered by a car battery kept on a charger in his home:
Hi Peng, the latest amp I saw at amazon is the stereo car amplifier pyramid pb3818 that is 3000 watts and cost only 104$

https://www.amazon.ca/Pyramid-PB3818-Channel-Bridgeable-Amplifier/dp/B004M9A0M8

Im also planning to match it up to a powerful JBL gto 939 speakers pair 6' x 9' available for 82$ .

I plan to buy that in some months when I gonna find a powerful 12 volt charger and sealed car battery, that should cost few. Stay tune...

I think we all know who the troll is, and is one the oddest nutters we have had in a long time. I suspect he is also a paranoid conspiracy theorist, if not full blown Schizophrenic. A lot of his last post is close to diagnostic.

Look, all the old electrononic stuffs is outdated except for the old farthed collectioners that really appreciated it in the old time. You can organize for yourself and friends, a mega rock or dance party with large tv , tower computer and sound system for 1200$ or less. I plan to buy for myself a concert hall system with only brand new stuff and install this stuff in a friend basement for when i go there sometime.

I found on youtube a good king crimson music video ( starless ), that i want to listen too at high spl with all the dynamics and inner details. The old sound system is just not able to do it right, why suffer. Even a car stereo bundle of 150$ is able do beat it. It is not my fault in any way if all the electronics companies are not making any money these days. Also all this system can be paid cash except the internet fees for now.

I apologize for the late reply. The speakers used to be in a 13ft x 30 ft room, but is now in a 18ft x 25ft room. As for the setup, the audio output from the TV was connected to the input on the receiver and the wires were taken out from the speaker ports to connect to them.
KEW being close by me, has offered to help check out my setup this weekend and hopefully that should shed light on any faults in the set up - receiver or connection.

Hi all, KEW was kind enough to drop by with his Yamaha receiver, cd player and speakers. We compared the two receivers side by side by powering one Model 19 speaker each and realized that my receiver was fine and well capable of powering the altec 19s. We also verified that the altec speakers were fine and working well throughout most of the audible frequencies.
In my latest setup, I had my samsung S8 phone plugged into my receiver, and it provided a very weak signal. Even when the phone was plugged into his Yamaha receiver, and the volume control maxed out, was producing just a normal listening level of sound.
KEW has suggested a few different options that can help me play my phone better. So I shall look into them and let you all know the outcome I shall proceed with.
Thank you all for your suggestions and help through out this, specially KEW for coming over to help me.

My Galaxy S4 had a relatively weak output on the headphone out. Streaming wirelessly via dlna/wifi with the BubbleUPnP app is how I use my phone with my receivers, no volume issue that way. A Chromecast Audio is a good way to go, too.

Hi all, I think it's about time I posted an update to my situation. I am currently using the the following inputs to my audio receiver-
1. Lg tv with optical audio output, connected through a digital to analog converter (dac)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07FCKQPGT?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title
2. Marantz cd player CC4003 (found a good deal on Facebook and it's still working after a day of use)
3. Samsung S8 phone through a bluetooth receiver
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B078J3GTRK/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This bluetooth reciever is a huge advancement compared to plugging the headphones output from the phone into the audio receiver. I was using a 3.5mm plug into rca output adaptor cable.
Now there is no complaint about the sound output quality from my phone, tv or cd player. Thank you all for the help.
