lovin, there are those us that are still serious about analog that know better, have you ever heard of Chad Kassem ??
Hard to get around analog altogether of course what with amps/speakers, but what is serious about vinyl technology these days? Or analog electronics particularly?

This thread, the one I started is about vinyl news . Lets not turn it into a circular arguement of analog verses digiital or vinyl verses CD or downloads. Its not about that but news about vinyl and its there for people who enjoy the format.

Sorry, forgot. Is there any actual news, tho? :)

All, Just for grins and giggles, I downloaded a 24/192 file of Sonny Rollins Saxophone Colossus, an album I already have on LP. I digitized the LP, which allowed me to compare, to some extent, the LP to the Hi-Res file of same. Playing at a somewhat realistic volume, and having matched the volume of the digital expressions, it was clear that the 24/192 file had a silent b/g while the digitized LP did not. Perhaps, digitizing at a higher level may have lessoned the b/g noise but there would still be no doubt about the 24/192 file being more silent in low level passages. Now, what was most interesting in my sophomoric experiment was the LP did not give up anything else to the Hi-Res file. Also, the digitized LP also sounded better than the LP listened to directly, since the digitization included application of a pop filter. My thoughts, supported by my little experiment is buying used vinyl and digitizing it is fun, gets me music I like inexpensively, gives me something to do, and sounds great, if not played so loud that noise is heard. I do not think buying new vinyl of new recordings is at all economical, or more enjoyable than just getting it on CD, or downloading it. Oh, the experiment also confirmed my turntable fitted with Shure M97xE cartridge was getting pretty much everything out of the groove, as well as tracking everything too.

getting back 'on track' and in response to lovin's post, again, those of us keeping tabs know there are artists / producers that are serious about analog.

Chad Kassem - http://kcur.org/post/how-salina-kansas-became-center-vinyl-record-universe#stream/0

also of note, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings latest LP is ALL analog
So, you've made some rules for yourself, or have a preference for the manner the music you seek is stored, believing that an all analog chain is most enjoyable, assuming that chain is bringing you the music lyrics and melody that you want to hear, is that right? OK, sounds like you've made a discovery that's satisfying. I'd like to buy one of the LP's you've recently enjoyed. Give me a suggestion. I like jazz and standards, anything in those genres you might think I'd like?

He's a factory owner with old pressing gear that may be up and running in a year per the article....that happened I take it since the article is 3 years old? He now has analog production for artists and producers or just what is the process for an all-analog environment from artist/mix/master? Need more info....

Here's some more info,

I've had the pleasure of touring the old church, hanging out with Chad @ Acoustic Sounds and listening to vinyl played back superbly in Chads personal listening room, one of the best I've ever heard.

He's kind of an obscure person to "know of". Glad you're buddies. Have fun! Now, can you answer the question about the all-analog environment from artist thru stamping?

I may be mistaken but when Tom Petty recorded Mojo, he used two streams, one analog for the vinyl, and digital for the CD. The LP sounds every bit as good as the CD with same level dynamics in both.

The medium is at the mercy of the recording and production engineers. If they know what they are doing, then either medium sounds awesome. Unfortunately there are many who dont know the limits of the medium and the results are disasterous.

So again, where is the all analog goodness with Chad the semi-well known owner of old stamping equipment? I sat with Glyn Johns (or was it his brother, been a long time) during a Rod Stewart recording session but that's irrelevant, too. :)

I've got MOJO in multi-channel BD. I don't like the genre but I do like the effect.

McIntosh enters the entry level turntable. I have no pricing information... Correction.. price is a cool $4K US

https://www.mcintoshlabs.com/products/turntables/MT2

I don't often see the words "entry level" in the same sentence as $4,000 price.
I am just a rube in the woods when it comes to stuff like this I guess.
I have always wanted a McIntosh product on my shelf. They look so distinctive.
The closest I will get, even though I have disposable income, will probably be a picture of something they make.

I want the first 1st off the press from the Master Press. The the closest I ever came is #15 off the Master press, FOGHAT, Fool for the City. Still have it!,, try getting that from a CD guess you could get the first one burned. But wha
I wouldn't knock a cheap TT, I had a young lady ask me about Vinly. She Was born in umm..92. Long story short when she came over to my home she saw my TT, nothing special about it, but it intrigued her enough to ask questions she being a 'millennial' asked me about way I still have record's she had never seen a Vinly LP. All she had ever seen was 45's. To her the the best thing for listening to music was her ear-buds and her IPhone. She is now a graduate from college with a masters very fluent with six different languages, has one of those TT's in those photo's. She fell in love with the idea that you actually had to get involved with the Music!. Last time I talked with here she told me she puts her cell phone on silent, pours herself a glass of wine kicks off her shoes and slaps one of her favorite albums on her TT.

Foghat, Fool for the City. One of my all time favorite albums. First owned it on vinyl.
Now it lives in digital paradise.

You missed the whole point of my post. Let me ask you what if by chance the digiti grid goes down? :p One thing about analog it doesn't need 0's and 1's to survive.:D. They say it takes a thousand years for a plastic bottle to disintegrate and CD's 200 to 300 years at best. What happens when your PC hard drive crashes and you forgot to backup everything. :D. When the grid eventually crashes and it will :p Vinyl will rule the day!.Oh yeah and don't tell me you got everything stored in the cloud ;)
