My First System Advice

So this is my first post on here, but I have been reading and researching for a month or so. I'm looking for some advice on speakers in my living room that is about 16' x 18' with an open wall to the kitchen. I have a marantz nr1607 avr due to a small area to place it. I am looking at a 5.1 setup, but not opposed to going 7.1 or 5.1.2 since atmos is supported by the avr. Floor standing speakers our out of the question (the wife gave a hard no on that). I have a 65" lg oledc6p hung on the wall. I would post pictures but the house is under a major remodel due to flooding from hurricane harvey. The LCR can either be on wall or in wall. Looking at about $1000 for the speakers. Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you planning on a sub in that budget also?

Yes, just one for now. I also forgot to mention that the sitting position will be about 10' from the tv.

I was thinking of mounting them to the ceiling. There is a beam that separates the kitchen and living room, but no actual wall. Are the in wall speakers better than any that will mount on the wall, or is it the budget that is affecting that?

On wall and in wall are very similar applications. I just choose the most affordable good sounding speaker , to pair with a decent subwoofer to fill the room.

If your going to mount surrounds, atmos speakers are out of the question really.

Is it because they will be so close to the ceiling already? I had previously thought about the Definitive Technology ProCinema 600, but have read so much on here that it makes it difficult to come to a conclusion.

It will throw the sound off with atmos and surrounds on ceiling. Any 5.1 system @1k has trade offs. The subwoofer linked will give you a good shot at having a better theater feel. To get to the next level of in/on wall speakers is a significant jump in budget.

Understandable. I guess the next question is, are there any comparable on wall speakers to the monoprice ones, so that if i get a chance to upgrade, there won't be any wall work.

Ok, so I ended up going with the Canton GLE 417 as my center, Canton GLE 410.2 as my left and right, Canton CD-1020 for my rear surrounds, and a HSU VTF-2 MK5 sub. Now I'm trying to figure the receiver situation out, I'm looking at the marantz nr1607/1608 or the Harmon Kardon avr 1710s. Any thoughts?

Specs on the cantons say 4 Ohms, so I'd look for avr that is stable into that. Depending on your listening habits and how far you sit from the speakers, you might need a little bit more. IMHO, this will give way more bang for your buck

Hey, im having a hard time finding reviews in the Cantons. How are you liking them? Do they fill up your space, desirably?

Thanks
