I decided to move the sub behind the main seating to the TV to balance that out and as I expected it got rid of my localization issue. It wasn't a big problem, but it was just something that was on my mind. Ran Audyssey again and of course it picked up on the moved sub and adjusted the distance and dB.

I bumped both of them up about 3dB as you suggested...with the B&Ws I prefer crossing over at 60 I said I was going to try it 50, but I haven't done it yet.

Heck, I might just get a 3rd VTF3.5! I did like that positioning behind the seating...I'm mostly kidding, but I can see how people end up with 4 subs.

I was just kidding (mostly) with my wife about how we have the perfect spots for 2 more near field subs. I said "I think that'd work perfect! " She said, "No, no it won't." I've pretty much tapped out her patience with audio.

It would work perfect tho.

Man we're sick!

The beauty of the man cave...if I did it, my wife would probably never even know to be honest...unless it showed up on a Fri...she works from home most Fridays.

My main seating is in a alcove and the space narrows to 12' there so one right in the middle (where I moved the other one from) is perfect. If I put two in each corner behind the seating there would only be about 7' between them.

I'm not going to do anything (right now), but if HSU is running a special later this year....watch out.

I'm just tweaking things now...TV audio thru the system is the next tweak...HDMI from the cable box to the Marantz is not giving me any audio from the TV so that's my current task.

This one, I could cut a hole right about where that plug is and put the sub on the other side of the wall, facing my chair. I could put a grill or something over it so it wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Oh...like an in wall sub kinda in the open area...and the other spot is ready made for a sub...like!

In this pic...from speaker to speaker is only 12'...the sub was right in the middle of these recliners. Doing the math it would it would actually be about 9' in between them if I did one in each corner.

Kevin was pretty confident that near field was the spot...and I did like it, but it sounds more balanced with them both on the TV wall though...I think I'm selling myself on a 3rd, at least!

I have all the tools to build some plinths to get my rears on the stands up about 18"...something else to work do.

Hey 2ch. I was looking at the pic you posted of the front of your room(which Tapatalk won't let me quote. Weird) and my OCD kicked in. I was wondering if you moved those B&w's in front of the subs if they might image a little better. I can't help but think there's som diffraction going on of the sides and maybe even the top of the subs. Also the chair on the right side might be providing some absorption that's not on the left. Ok...twitching......over........

Yeah, I could move the B&Ws out a few inches and push the subs back an inch or two...I will do that...thanks.

The chair on the right is a temporary obstruction, lol...my son is supposed to be taking it when he moves out...(fingers crossed on both counts)...for now, there's really no where else to put it in the interim.

The left main speaker wire length is almost maxed out so I couldn't move it forward as much as I liked, but I was able to move the subs back more...didn't notice much in the music, but I have to imagine when that chair is finally gone I might hear a slight difference.

Jim updated the eta on the Salks. There are 15 projects ahead of mine (much like I was expecting, late Sept/early OCT ship). They are taller than the B&Ws, width is similar, but once they get in I'll tweak positioning.

I did get to the bottom of why my TV sound was not coming through the system speakers...the cable box has two HDMI ports, but only one seems to be delivering audio and video. I'll call the cable company to see if this is normal but I don't think it is.

Yeah, I figured...speaker wire limits the left one...closer than before...almost even with the sub now...no problem getting the right one even....better, thanks for looking out.

Like I said...when the Salks get in I'll revisit this with that goal in mind.

Yeah exactly. I was just sharing an observation. One that would have me personally cutting new cables lol. I'm not even sure that it would make that big of a difference but I have to think it would hinder image and such, and IMO would be worth pursuing. In any case, it won't be long and they'll be gone, and hopefully that chair too! Probably miss the kid after awhile but hey, enjoy the nest every chance you get.

Well I just had something interesting happen. I got a roll of 12g ofc cable and did all new runs. I noticed yesterday and this morning that my left speaker was underperforming. I noticed it because my imaging was all effed up. I did everything. switched R/L cables to eliminate amp issues. I even hooked it up directly to the receiver. I ended up contacting SVS.

He had me physically switch the speakers to see if the problem followed the speaker. Indeed it did. It seemed like all of the drivers were working, just quieter and less crisp. He then had me romove the jumpers and put them back. Boom. Problem solved. I'm happy, but I'm also a little "wtf?".

I s'pose there's an argument there for removing jumpers and using cable instead...

I'm in almost the same boat as you with my son. He's 18 and fresh outta high school tho. He was talking college in the fall, but now he has a line on a pretty good job so I'm afraid college will be put on the back burner.

Same thing tho. I'm on him to save so he can get his own place. He's doing okay there, but could curb his spending a little more. We don't have a boot in his ass or anything, as long as he just keeps pushing that rock up the hill.

I'm lost...you did new runs with jumpers (like banana plugs?) and this problem happened? Then you went back to bare wire connections and it went away?

Jumpers are the thin pieces of metal you put between the upper and lower binding posts if you're not biwiring or biamping. Had to be what Liam said. Maybe they just needed reseated. I might have jiggled something because I used a bare wire connection to listen to music while I put the banana plugs on the new cable.

I was pretty freaked out. I thought maybe I blew a tweeter or had an issue with the crossover. The speaker was getting power to all the drivers but, it sounded really... filtered?

I even pulled all the drivers (except the 8" woofers) and checked to make sure they were all hooked up! Yeah, I was freaking a little. They have full warranties though. I wasn't looking forward to packing it up and shipping it.

Jumpers are the thin pieces of metal you put between the upper and lower binding posts if you're not biwiring or biamping. Had to be what Liam said. Maybe they just needed reseated. I might have jiggled something because I used a bare wire connection to listen to music while I put the banana plugs on the new cable.

Yeah sounds like Liam solved it...if that little piece gets jogged I see how that might happen, but yes I feel ya, I would be freaking out too!
