Need some guidance please

Greetings everyone,

Can I get guidance on what a good AV Receiver would be? I'm willing to spend up to around $2,200. I've been doing a lot of research on various brands, but with them all having similar features, I'm really having a hard time deciding on which to purchase. Can you experts give me some suggestions?

My goal is to have a 5.1.2 channel setup so I'm thinking of a 9.1 or 9.2 channel receiver with the latest features for Atmos, online radio, wifi, networking, 4K, HDMI, etc.

To give you a reference point, I've been looking at the Yamaha A3070 and Onkyo 1100. I see Denon and Marantz are reputable brands as well.

I'd consider Marantz/Denon brands ahead of Onkyo. Pick an avr for the connectivity/features you want is my suggestion. A full set of pre-outs will give you amp options but most avr amps are within a few dB of each other. I would suggest the Denon 4300.

Concur with HD. With that budget, you should be able to find the Denon 4300, Marantz 6011, or Yamaha 2060 and still have coin left for speakers, sub, or maybe an amp.

I'd love to tell you but I can't reply on this forum without getting an error saying my reply is "spam-like" every time I click "post reply". What kind of crazy monitoring does this forum board have? Nothing in my reply is inappropriate.

No, trying to type what kind of speakers I have already, what I plan to buy, etc. can we not type brand names? I don't know what words in my replies are causing the error where I can't post the reply.

I'm not sure what it is, but I think there's a restriction on what you can post for your first ten or something. I think it scares product pushing salesfolk away.

I have been looking at a DENON AVR-X7200WA Receiver It's got excellent reviews on this web site and others. I've seen for $1800 with a 3 year warranty (Denon Factory Refurbished).

I've been trying to compare to a Yamaha CX A5100 which is a A/V Processor. I do have a 3 ch B&K amp and a Adcom 2 ch amp (both at 200W/ch). Both Yamaha and Denon are about the same price for me. I want to run an Atmos setup. (5.2.4 or 7.2.4) so If I purchased the Yamaha I would need an additional amp. If I went with Denon I would not need the extra amp. My Question is how do these two units compare as far as A/V Processors and would I be able to allocate the onboard amps on the Denon AVR-X7200WA for the back and ceiling channels and let my b&K amp work the fronts.

Any help would be appreciated .

Sounds like a topic you could start a thread of your own on. We try not to derail other threads. I don't know much about either, but Denon has always been my brand. I'm sure the 7200 is probably a flagship model and I sure wouldn't be disappointed to have it!

This one is 1800 and comes with a 3 year warranty. Is this what you were looking at? I took advantage of the promotion and just bought a SR6011. It'll be here Friday. I've used AC4L a few times now and have had good experiences each time.

Got to the "Amps, Pre-Pros & Receivers" sub forum. Just down from the top on the right half of the screen you should see a blue button. "Post New Thread"

Marantz is always a good bet. If you have the budget, Anthem is even better.

Do you have speakers/sub already?

Currently I'm upgrading my entire entertainment system. i just bought a pair of Klipsch RP-280F speakers a few weeks ago, will be buying a 12in sub, center, surrounds and a pair of Atmos speakers as I have the money, all Klipsch brand. However, after I buy the subwoofer, I plan to buy the new receiver so I can listen to 2.1 channel music as I build the rest of the surround system.

I think I'm down to either the Yahama RX A3060 Aventage or the Marantz SR-7011. In my research, both of these are feature packed and are quality receivers.

Any suggestions?

Just curious... Are you sticking with all Klipsch because you're getting a special deal? The reference premium series is solid but I recommend you consider other subs - rhythmic, SVS, or Hsu. For the money, you'll get better performance.

Well, I had planned on sticking with the same brand. But how much better performance would any of those other brand subs offer me over a Klipsch?

I'm looking for good bass, something that packs a solid punch, but I wasn't looking for earth shattering throw me into the next room kinda bass. I want the bass to nicely complete the mids and highs of my music, not be over bearing if that helps.

As far as genre of music I listen to, virtually everything except country. From rock, metal, blues, jazz, a little classical from time to time, movie soundtracks, electronic, dance, R&B to Hip Hop. And of course audio when watching movies.

I did go to my local audio/video store (not a box store) and listened to the Klipsch subwoofer they had and it sounded pretty good to me. I don't have stores in my area that sell those brands you speak of (although I seen the SVS brand mentioned before) to do a listening test.

You'll have to educate me why these others are much better please.

As far as receivers, which of the two I mentioned in my last reply would anyone recommend?

Totally understand your reticence. Hard to know what you're getting if you can't hear it first. And I'm sure the Klipsch sounded good. The Klipsch sub I had sounded good too, until I heard the Hsu. Night and day. More headroom and deeper extension - what you buy a sub for.

Additional benefit of the Hsu is variety. With the same sub, you have variable controls so you can go deeper for the sound effects of a movie or have stronger mid-bass for music. Just this evening, I've been enjoying J.S. Bach, Diana Krall, and Queen. All sounded fabulous.
