Reading this thread tells me I need a UPS or at least better power management instead of a single overloaded power strip.

I agree with others choosing APC, they have excellent products with a strong history in the IT world. I believe they even design/spec. protection products for large data centers worldwide.

I recall they backup their warranty with insurance protection, if your house catches on fire and you can prove it was caused by their equipment (maybe battery explodes) they will cover damages at a very high coverage limit ($500K - $1M?). Don't know if it is standard with most manufacturers or if APC stills honors it now being Schneider Electric.

I watched my voltage on my scope the we use for can buss systems these past few days and all is good there ,no need for voltage regulation
I do understand the importance of good connections and clean power , I do not buy into snake oil cables , i buy blue jean cables
How ever , speaking with the info systems guys that repair all the $$$$$ hospital gear at my wife's work and happens to be a audiophile, his opinion is, the more crap between the wall and the gear just makes it less pure, and most gear does not filter it proper manner , he recommended to get it all hooked up , let it burn in and get my ears used to it and then install a venom ps8 and defender as it filters things in a more proper manner, does not restrict or dirty power , and do not use a battery back up if i can avoid it , he also recommended a whole house surge protector , Demo the venom and send it back if no change but doubts that , or try an APC, fur-man and then compare
I Called the company that makes the venom and they pretty much said same thing ,
Emotiva said same thing that they do not recommend any thing but straight into wall ,

All I have is opinion to offer, and 40 years of living with thunderstorms. I like the general sentiment of the fewer gadgets between your gear and the wall the better. I like getting the manufacturers opinion (Emotiva) of any potential gear that would touch power.

I believe it was TLS Guy that said you simply need to adapt to your local conditions, not try and meet some arbitrary standard. If your local conditions for power are pretty stable and clean, then buying a lot of power gear won't really help and may indeed hurt. My local conditions are pretty benign and stable: except for thunderstorm season. I have adapted to that.

Keep up the safe and sane approach and you should be fine. There will always be somebody trying to sell you something to "make it better". Always.

I've asked Emotiva that as well and they say that for their AMPS. The amps have built in protection circuitry. The rest of their gear I would put on some kind of surge suppression, just like any other.

I have an older APC H10 that I am still using. I had a Panamax 4300 and 5100. Noticed minor improvements on the TV, but nothing on the audio side, so when the 5100 blew on one bank (internally failed would not provide power, out of warranty), I bought the APC and haven't had any issues since.

I think the Marantz is probably a very sensitive product and would benefit from a battery back up in the end seeing it has a micro processor and at this point im over it and going to throw a dart at APC all in one or fur man and order it unless my wife brings home some cool stuff from work
and thanks for all your help ! , its just hard to see through the sales bull and get so many different opinions on this subject from the so called pros in the industry around here and tired or researching it , unplug it later on to see the difference

UPS would be for devices that may need to cool lamps before fully shutting down or to give you time to save data on something like a computer system. You do not need that for an AVR. The only time you will have a failure with an AVR is if power goes out while you are doing a firmware update.

Whole home for sure, then just a cheap one where the system is IMO. Yes they're pricey, but a UPS isn't going to do anything for them that a surge suppressor won't. You don't need 3hrs of power to walk over and shut them off. Something like an APC will shut off instantaneously with voltage irregularities. Something serious enough to cause damage beyond that will not be prevented by a UPS IMO.
