With that size space, I think you should definitely go ported and not sealed for the additional output and the more linear bass extension before roll off. Sealed can be good in smaller rooms because room gain can actually help you to end up with deeper bass extension. But this is not likely to happen with a room that large.

I'd suggest going bigger rather than smaller. I don't think you'd regret the VTF-15H at all

I think it's going to be either the VTF3 or th VTF15h. Just not sure it's worth the much heftier shipping fee for The VTF15h. If I did get one of these behemoths is there even a point to getting a second one down the line some time or would it be overkill?

The VTF15h will have slightly deeper bass, and its deep bass will be a bit cleaner since the ports and cabinet are larger. However it uses the same driver and amplifier as the VTF3, so above say 25 Hz, it should sound the same. If you are interested in movies with very deep bass and will be playing them loud, the VTF15h might be worth the extra cost.

I think I'm pretty set on getting the VTF3 here very soon. Not sure the VTF 15H is worth the extra money and twice the shipping cost of the VTF3. Only thing I'm still pondering and won't probably know until I have had one of them for a while is whether there is value in getting a second one at some point.

The biggest value in multiple subs is smoothing response throughout the room (multiple seats) versus with a single sub and working with one seat. The little extra output of a second sub in a room that large wouldn't hurt either.

This is why I posed the question on here. You and others out there saved me from making a decision that I would have regretted once I gained more experience down the road, so thank you for that. I certainly wouldn't buy something under the pretense that just because it's more expensive it's better. However, what I didn't think enough about was the factory direct/dealer markup aspect and I especially didn't consider the size factor. Which matters little to me compared to performance, but I realize that's a bigger factor for most folks

I did TONS of research before deciding on that brand/model and though I kind of new what to expect when I got it but I'll tell you, it still blew me away. The thing is ginormous and the output and deep bass are crazy!

I use it for about 90% movies. One of the first movies we watched was "Interstellar" and I swear it moved the house a few inches off it's foundation.

That baby looks pretty awesome sitting there. Obviously you thought it was worth the high shipping price to get their flagship model. I think I'm leaning that way too. I will be using it mostly for movies and games as well. How long did it take from order to ship?

What is the rest of your setup if you don't mind me asking?

IIRC, it was $100 more for the 15h plus the extra shipping. I kind of figured, for that little of a difference (I know "little difference" is subjective), I would get the one I really wanted and not second guess myself later.

I placed my order pretty early in the morning and they shipped it out the same day. FedEx said 3 days from them in California to me in Montana. It actually took 4 days but it was right before Black Friday and the weather was pretty crappy.

I called HSU and e-mailed them a couple of times with questions and they were extremely pleasant and very nice. VERY good customer service.

My equipment right now is:
-L&R speakers are Klipsch Icon KF-28.
-Center is the matching KC-25.
The Icon series is Klipsch's lower line of tower speakers. I picked them up super cheap and they were a pretty big upgrade from what I had previously.
-Surround and rear surround are in-ceiling rbh A-815L's.
-Epson 5030ub 3D projector.
-Vapex 110" 16x9 motorized screen.
I got the motorized screen because I've got a Panasonic 65" 3D tv mounted on the wall behind the screen. I had the tv before I bought the projector and screen and thought I may still use the tv for watching older dvd's and maybe playing certain games. Honestly, I haven't used the tv since I got the projector.
-Running everything through a Pioneer sc-1223 receiver.
-Controlling everything with a Harmony Elite universal remote.

Exactly right. It's especially easy, I think, with people's forays into their first major ID sub to second guess. Once one hears how good it sounds, many people will think, "Gee, I should have spent the extra $100." Well, like you say, assuming the extra $100 is not a major dip into someone's disposable income.

Now wait until you get the itch for a 2nd one six months or a year from now. That's a nice upgrade

I'm late to the party, but as someone who bought a pair of E112's (the E110's are pretty much the same design scaled down) expecting them to be top performing subs, let me provide my take on them.

The E112's are a technical marvel for anyone who is looking for maximum extension and output for HT with strict restrictions on size. You are paying a lot to defy the physics which associate deep bass with a large box! If the size is not a major factor, you are wasting money because you can get better performance out of a larger box for less money. Performance-wise, I did not notice anything outstanding about the E112. However, I can shower plenty of superlatives on the E112 if I finish them with "for its size"!

Yep it's what I'm getting. Sucks I have to wait a few weeks to get it. My original subwoofer budget was a lot less and WAF compromise was to wait because my washing machine took a crap. I guess washing clothes is more important. Lol!

Lol! Yeah, life circumstances sure can suck sometimes. I ended up spending more than I planned also so I had to save a little longer too but I'm sure glad I did. You won't regret waiting.

You may have already done this, but while you're waiting I would recommend downloading the manual from the HSU website and read through that a few times to make yourself familiar with the different settings available on this sub.

I found a lot of good info over on the AVS site (and here) too. One post I found very helpful was from Dr. Shu:

We put too much gain on the sub, so usually 8 o'clock is already plenty loud. If you do not have auto calibration on your receiver, get a SPL meter and follow the instructions in the manual to setup the sub properly. For HT, you can set the sub 3 dB hotter than flat (with Audyssey, aim for -3 after auto calibration, then bump the sub out to 0)."

I've got a Pioneer receiver and after I ran MCACC (Pioneer's version of Audyssey) I ended up setting the sub's main volume a lot higher than what a lot of other people do. I have it set to around 11 o'clock to get it where I like it. The folks at HSU said, "No problem. Set it how you like it!"

I'd like to hear your thoughts once you receive it.

Absolutely just be patient because it might be a few weeks, but it could be a little over a month too, but I'll check back in with you. I have a Pioneer as well so we could certainly compare notes. (Pioneer Elite SC-95) you?

I have the SC-1223k. I believe your receiver has MCACC Pro, if I remember correctly? Mine only has the MCACC Advanced but it seems to do a pretty good job. Honestly, there's some of the settings in MCACC that I don't even understand.

I've had a couple of Sony receivers, a couple Onkyo's and this Pioneer. I really like the Pioneer quite a lot. Could never get the Onkyo's to last more than a couple of years but I really liked how they sounded too.

I have the SC-1223k. I believe your receiver has MCACC Pro, if I remember correctly? Mine only has the MCACC Advanced but it seems to do a pretty good job. Honestly, there's some of the settings in MCACC that I don't even understand.

I've had a couple of Sony receivers, a couple Onkyo's and this Pioneer. I really like the Pioneer quite a lot. Could never get the Onkyo's to last more than a couple of years but I really liked how they sounded too.

Sorry its been a while, but life got crazy as my kids baseball started up.

I finally ordered and received my Sub about a month and a half ago. It's even bigger than I expected and luckily it went into the basement or my wife would not have let it through the door!

So far...

I bought a calibrated mic and downloaded REW, but I haven't educated myself on how to use either one yet so I haven't really played around with the sub's settings very much. For the last couple of months I have had it on EQ2 with both ports open and the Q at 0.3. last night I closed a port and moved the Q to 0.5 and figure I will audition it like this for a bit, or maybe even use the mic I spent $100 on.

With the sub volume/gain at the 8 o'clock position MCACC puts the sub at -5db after running. I turn mine up to about the 12 o'clock position after I run MCACC, but I like a lot of bass. Thing I don't like about Pioneer receivers is it doesn't allow you to set the crossover for individual speakers or at least mine doesn't. So I have my crossover set at 80.

I'm curious to know what you are experiencing with yours and if you have any wisdom to pass.
