The guys that built our pool and outdoor kitchen do our indoor stuff too but that's not their normal business model so they won't do it for you as they "try" to only do pools.

Remove the baseboards is probably the hardest step of installing a floor. If you need to do that I suggest working on that little by little before your planned install date.

Yeah, we're definitely going to be getting help. Ripping out the carpet and baseboards will take plenty of time and effort. The install will take several days as well. The house is ~2800 sq ft. We're just going to do the first floor and the stairs now. The second floor will happen later. We're going to be painting the house in addition to replacing the floors

There is a guy out on 121 and beach area that owns a floor service and is a Monitor Audio dealer. I was going to buy some MAs from him at one time. It a weird name like "At your Service" or something like that. He may be a good place to start.

I don't know if TX has no-fault auto insurance, but if not, you A) don't want to accept the first offer, B) probably don't want to accept the second offer and C) ask the DOT if they have cameras on that area of highway. If they do, find out if you can get a copy of the video. If they balk, tell your insurance company to get it.

How thick is the flooring? If it's thin, you don't need to rip out the trim- rental centers have a tool for under-cutting the trim, so the edge can slip underneath. It's similar to a large router with a saw blade at the bottom. If you have something like quarter-round, that should come out, but the base molding can probably stay in place.

We want something that we like the look of, is durable, and fairly inexpensive I doubt the floor will be anywhere as thick as the existing carpet, however. I would imagine there would be a relatively large gap between the floors and the baseboards but that's something else I don't know for sure.

You might want to lift the carpet in a corner, to look for a gap under the shoe molding, behind the tack strip (assuming it has that).

I suggest using real canvases and saving them for later in the garage. Those plastic ones are slippery and love to not stay in place. The good thing is the paint will dry fast now that it's stopped raining.

As a married couple you should have full coverage. It's dirt cheap. Mine even has a rental rider. If you decide to go used Mazda 3's are the cheap used reliable cars now in the area.

Fortunately no major injuries. She's just sore in the neck/shoulder/lower back. I'm really glad it wasn't worse.

She was on her way to work, driving south on 35W in the right lane, and some douche in the left lane decided to merge his truck into her car. Did plenty of damage to the left/front side of her vehicle. She pulled over and fortunately he did as well. However, that's the only time he did the right thing. He did not get out to check on her or to exchange information. He did speak to the police when they arrived, but he probably lied and told them she hit him. We'll see how the insurance handles it.

I am of course really glad that she's not severely injured. She and I are bummed because her car is old and has seen a lot of miles. Insurance will probably total it. We just closed on our house last week and having another car payment was not in the plans. I really hope that guy owned up to his mistake and told the cops the truth.

I'm sorry to hear that. I'm glad your wife came out of this relatively OK and I know you get that. It just sucks to go back into the car market again having to spend money that would have to had happen if the dude was being careful. Good luck.

We of course have full coverage. Definitely not dirt cheap though. I pay ~$185/mo for the two of us. It keeps getting more expensive and I don't know why (no at fault accidents or tickets).

The rental is covered, the tow is covered, it's covered if the other driver has no or insufficient coverage, medical payments and personal injuries are covered, so that's all good.

I have gotten quotes from other insurance companies but their level of coverage for the money does not come close to USAA.

Oh, I've seen those camera shots before on a traffic site. The I35W @ Western Center camera would be the nearest one but it appears to be too far away and facing the opposite direction

Shoe molding is the small piece at the bottom of the base molding, used to cover the joint between the base and flooring. It adds a bit of interest to the profile of the trim.

If your house doesn't have it, it's harder to butt flooring that's not carpet up to it and have it look good- carpet can be cut and tucked into the groove between the tack strip and base molding. If you look at the tack strip in the photo, you'll notice that one edge is angled- that side goes next to the wall, about 1/2" away, to leave room for the edge of the carpet when it's tucked. That way, the raw edge isn't visible.

Cool beans, thanks for the info. We'll probably just want to go ahead and replace all of our trim because what we have is really basic and cheap looking. The house is really barebones. No upgrades. My parents bought it in 2002 when it was first built but didn't stay in TX for much longer after that. I've lived in it the entire time but only recently did we decide to buy it from them. We closed on it at the end of last month and want to make it nicer for us. We'll do a little bit at a time. Paint and floors first.

Spoke to somebody at TXDOT today. State law prohibits them from recording with those cameras. They are only available for live viewing. It was worth a shot though :/

I would talk to a local cop- I have gotten the same info you did, from some and when I talked to the local police chief, he said they can keep the video for as long as they want, but can't use it for traffic enforcement (like mailing out tickets for violations). They use them for traffic count and viewing when a chase is occurring, something else is happening in view of the cameras, etc. TX may have other ideas.

Using them only for live viewing seems like a huge waste of money- I saw the bid offer for one intersection not far from my house. Four cameras, mounted on existing poles, $86,000.
