What New Stuff Have You Bought? If You Care To Share Thead! :)

Well I have two new things to show. One is new that I just Bought and the other I built myself.

First we have a brand new paradigm studio cc-590 v5 center speaker. This was discounted heavily because it is not exactly a new model and they have now discontinued the studio line I think and replaced it with the Prestige or something. I got it to sort of match my second hand Monitor 9 V4's I got recently. It is not a perfect match but I figured getting the higher end Center can't hurt too much.

The second new thing is the TV Cabinet I built out of MDF. It has a Laminated Rubberwood top and acrylic doors. The Cabinet is 400mm/16" deep which is not really enough to fit a proper AVR with it's rear cabling etc but I built the cabinet to cover over an old fireplace. Fireplace used to have a gas fireplace that has since been replaced with a Heat Pump so I got it pulled out and I've lined the 2" cube hole left behind and this hole gives me room for cabeling etc. Plus I have a HTPC box running MythTV hiding in there as well.

Drilled down though 200mm of concrete hearth to get 6 runs of Supra Ronda 2x2.5mm tinned OFC cables into the sub floor that terminate at binding posts on front and back wall.

The TV screen which may at first apare to be sitting on the center (which would never work since the speaker is round not square!) is in fact on an extendable wall mount. We use this because it allows us to rotate the screen to the side where the dinning room so we can watch news etc while we eat.

Final new addition is a Harmony Hub+Smart Keyboard+Smart Control Remote which I got to control the equipment inside the cabinet. You can see the Hub beside the center speaker.

Not much in the cabinet right now. Yamaha RX-V667 Receiver at the bottom, an old Xbox 360 in the middle and Samsung BD-H6500 bluray player on the top shelf. Side compartments are empty but will probably soon fill up with non AV stuff. Wife will probably start filling them up with kids toys...

They have quite long delivery time, so I have long time to wait before I can try them.. But sure I can share my impression when I can.

Very nice! Did you put, or plan to put some fans in there?
Yeah was looking at options to add a fan in the side. Just monitoring it right now to see how hot it gets in there first. There is a full tower computer in the back going 24/7 to record and watch TV so it does keep the inside of the cabinet a little warm. So far it seems to be handling the heat fine but it is just coming up to winter here so i'm a bit worried it will have problems when summer rolls around... I may remove and store away the center acrylic door in the summer months as the opening is 600x600mm (2'x2') and would provide more than enough air flow. Other option is I will add a 120mm fan powered from an external wire to the computer in the back of the old fireplace. If I use this i would modify the cabinet a little by reducing the depth of one of the side compartments to use this space as a vent to the side of the cabinet. Fan would go in the middle of the cabinet to reduce its noise profile.

Wow. Let's hope it keeps working for a long, long time.
I understand they have a lifetime warranty. Yours. Trouble is you can't collect and they know it. ;)

My latest, and it just happens to be AV related.

Bought a backup, yep they are really nice. These go for $50-60, so $10 is a steal. :)

I use those on my amp side because I don't like pulling everything out when one accidentally gets bumped.
