Since fiddling with the system, I've got a nasty hum coming from the surround speakers and only the surround speakers. Trying to figure out where it's coming from with no luck. Ordered a few more sets of XLR's to try balanced from processor to amp to see if that helps.

I'm assuming that you've been disconnecting cables one at a time to narrow it down, right? I think that you just wanted an excuse to order more stuff.

Pfft, if it was cool stuff yes. Wires, not so much.

I ran into an additional issue today that has taken my focus off of the surround channels for the time being. Oy, talk about a never ending process. Why oh why did I sell the 2x4

You've got a lot of equipment, how many circuits are you using? I know it would be odd to have a ground loop hum on only your rear channels, unless the rear channel amp shares a circuit with a couple of subs or a display...

Reworked plate amp in PS10 so the line level inputs go straight to the driver and powered it up with a Marantz MA700. The sub is now pointed it into the corner like they're saying to do now.The amp has a gain and it wanted to be dialed back from the THX setting to match the rest of the speakers. Removed the 120v line. Tore into the working sub and am mid stream into making it passive as well. At first I thought I was going to take like a few measurements but listening to the first sub for like 3 seconds settled it. I added one stick brace from the back panel to the window pane brace and threw in some 8/32 threaded inserts for the driver ... and lock washers. I only have regular washers for the second sub but oh well.

Yea, it's all on 2 circuits. However the hum isn't from displays. It has to be one of the new components, either the Ultracurve or the distributor. I know it's not the miniDSP because I removed that this morning. Next up is to unplug those two things and see if the hum is still there.

Have successfully undone all the work I did yesterday. All wires are unplugged. About to plug them in one at a time until I punch myself in the face from irritation.

"Fixed" the bass issue. But now the miniDSP is out. Not sure if the issue I fixed was related to it or not. Might give it another shot.

Found the hum. It didn't even occur to me that the hum could be coming from the computer stuff. Turns out the hum was coming from the HDMI that was connected to the computer and that the hum over there was coming from two monitors. A HD trip and $2 later and the hum is gone, plus I have two spare cheater plugs.

All is almost right in the world. In other news, I popped in a demo disc and played the demo scene from Pulse. Pretty sure the house shifted. Bass issue definitely gone. Now just to figure out how to get it EQ'ed again without F'ing it up again.

I got the other sub re-worked and running as well. I'm a go play. It sounds real nice too with better amps. The cabinet isn't terrible and the driver looks capable. I guess it made sense to cheap out on the amp at that lowly price point.

I got a de-soldering tool somewhere along the line. Probably somebody on CL. It's nice too, a Weller. Works pisser. It was required to modify the binding post. Some coarse test tones show that my 50 Hz bump is not nearly as bad. Sh!tty little plate amps are what makes an otherwise respectable little 10" sub into a one note wonder.

I started vestibular therapy and have been dizzy as hell ever since... which they don't tell you, until you get home with a big folder of paper work and read the fine print... you might be useless for the first week or two, if it works at all....

Got a few panels cut for a new sub enclosure, but nowhere near done. Don't even feel safe with a track saw when the world is spinning.

Fuzz suggested SawStop. Yeah I might be willing to spend on Festool but that's strictly for the portability. I have a tiny 2 car garage and built a table for 4x8 sheet goods to lay flat. You can't lean that stuff. So if I've got a project in the finish process in my garage, I can literally take my whole shop with me to my dads, or where ever a job might be.

But for a table saw, that new Delta at Lowes/ hd is extremely well built! My dad has an old Ryobi that he practically stole on clearance like 15 years ago. But 3/4" stock really tires that poor old saw!

Getting ready to vacuum some more of my front yard. I got about 1/5 of it done yesterday, and I'm shooting for another 1/5 this morning. I like to contain it to about an hour at a time because the vacuum is loud and I don't want to overly bother everyone else, plus the vibration from the vac begins to hurt my arms/hands if I use it too long. An hour is just about right. I get enough of it done to get credit for trying from most folks, I think.

Saw Stops designs are brilliant. No doubt. I've become accurate enough to split hairs, but when I can't see straight, nothing helps!
