I have a problem with my audio

Hey there, I was hoping to get some advice here. I recently changed the position of my surround sound system. I heard that if you have a floor with a rug or a carpet, the sound is awesome. In my previous position, I had a rug in the room of my system (the floor is tiled) but now I don't have any rug and the audio sounds so bleeping echoed. Any assistance here, please? I am not bothered to put a rug back in here but the audio is really annoying me now...

Is this a wind up? You obviously know the answer to your problem. It's a rug, carpet or both.

I do not know what you mean, you are suggesting I need a floor with a rug/carpet?

No, due to the fact that putting a carpet/rug in the room is complicated...

Next exam.

1). No rug or carpet. I'm content with lousy audio.

2). I can replace the carpet and have good audio.

3). If I post here, my audio problem will be resolved because the members of the Audioholics forum are the finest magicians on the planet.

For now, I will have to go with 1. I will eventually go with 2, but not 3.

Now your test scores are improving.

A tiled floor without an an acoustically adsorbent treatment such as a rug or carpet, is going to have a very dominant first reflection and in the worst of all planes. This will make good audio quality impossible.

Hmmm. Not sure I understand why putting a rug in the room is complicated. Cover as much floor area as you can. Use several small rugs if it's simpler. It will be better than nothing.

Moral of the story: If you care about sound quality, a ceramic tile floor is a 100% deal breaker. Pretty much an iron law of audio physics.

You know, Bose makes some systems that are very uncomplicated.
Perfect solution because Bose doesn't care whether you have carpeting in a luxurious living room or dirt on the barn floor...or anything in between. Their systems sound the same regardless! :D

Just kidding, of course. A close family member of mine works for Bose...for now. He won't by the middle of the year though, when they ship 400 jobs off to the Phillipines. So yeah, I'm a little "dismayed" with them.

I'm sorry to hear, that's unfortunate.

It's not only unfortunate for him, it unfortunate for our whole country that so many companies see fit to do this. I'm betting this comes back to bite them in more than one way. If Dr. Amar Bose were alive today this would probably never even be discussed. He was adamant that he didn't go into business to make money, rather simply he did it to do things that hadn't been done before, to be innovative. He was very successful in doing just that, and made money just the same. Now in the hands of others, just like Apple, things will change and profitability will take front stage even though it remains a privately held company. That will probably change too.

Ok, so I put two rug/mats in the room, one for the Subwoofer and one in front of my seat, and I moved the back speakers a bit and the audio sounds lovely. Thanks for all the advice people! :)
