Alright guys, we really need to band together here... Kanye needs all of our help, and as Audioholics I think we have a special obligation to pitch in.
https://www.gofundme.com/kanyesmedicis

For round 2, we can start up a gofundme for 50 Cent, as he's on the verge of becoming an indentured servant.

Instead of giving money to get Kanye out of debt, please instead donate to this compaign: Help Keep Kanye West In Poverty (https://www.gofundme.com/povertyforkanye). It is a much better use of your money.

GF is away until Saturday night at some lame teacher conference in New Mexico. I wonder if it's better than Old Mexico. In any case, seems like a good time to see if I can top my previous record and hit 116+db.

3D movies in my underpants at deafening levels here I come................after work tomorrow.

Have I mentioned lately that I never want to have kids?

Wife is away next weekend so I'll find the time to run another circuit to my living room and get quad subs up and running!

Ain't no babies 'round here, neither!

I love when people ask, "What will you do?"

Be happy!

(and have money to pay people if I'm that crippled when I'm old instead of burdening my children)

A quick update on the Sierra 2 repair. Dave says the tweeters are out of stock till second half of February. I asked if repair was off the table and if i need to buy a replacement pair, but, haven't heard back.
Update: The tweeter I sent in was damaged when I dropped the speaker and not repairable. Dave@Ascend let me have the replacement at significant discount and it is ordered.

Suspecting I'd have a functional AVR sooner than the replacement tweeter, I bought a pair of AA speakers in January. They have been sitting unopened since my AVR is still not fixed . In hindsight, I should have picked up a stand-in AVR the moment I decided to buy the AA's. This weekend I'm going to find a $50-100 Craigslist stand in. Listening to music through the TV speakers is becoming painful. Alarmingly, I thought the car stereo sounded good the other day!

Man, what a day. I'm going to pull the blinds up and open the window so the cool air and rays of sunshine can recharge the positivity in my speakers connections. Too much shade kills the sound in the corners.

I think I may have crossed the line with actually believing my own BS. I think I have the magical eq/ch gain ratio worked out better than ever in the liv rm ... it goes without saying that I believe this to be true for Bi-Amped ManTown as well. Seriously, we watched Martian last night and I set the speakers to Large w/subs and had no issues whatsoever with dialog and as you can imagine I'm looking. I had spent time listening to the BIA SACD, Sheryl Crow 5.1 DD and Beethoven's 9th DVD-A to help me establish center gain after following the trends YPAO set.

Funny thing, I've been playing with speakers and settings and soldering crossovers and replacing tweeters and driving all over hell's half acre for some of this audio bliss. A couple of days ago I was at Eddie's Garage and played a CD I had mixed on the more extensively modded Primus 36x speakers and a found sub with the towers under the control of Walter's PEQ powered by an onk 606. Total out of pocket was $225. It sounded great. :D

My ability to accomplish almost nothing exceeds even my own expectations.

I have a decent amount that I should get done today, which is a result of not having done any of it when I should have. I expect to feel this same way next Sunday...

This is my SOP as well. I might be a member of the Procrastinators Club, but that word alone describes some kind of intent to eventually do a task but just put it off for now.

I should start a club for people who have many things that need doing, but have every intention of NEVER doing them. And that club exists exactly where it should. In my head with no intention of ever actually doing it.

I wish I could sit still. AADDADHD I mark where I need to cut some wire mold. Gonna need the saw. Set it up on the balcony. This Mahogany thing I built for around the slider needs planing and it needs to have the miters adjusted. Eddie's saw must be off. Anyway, I dismantle the Mahogany valance. Re-cut the miters. Plane it down. Cut the wire mold. Got mineral spirits and 3M ultra fine mesh sh!t. Gotta a splinter. Am starving. Need to cook. I found these old Mosh ear bud relacement things that would look cool as f^%& on some speaker wire that I need to trim anyway. You know what I really need? F^%&ing medication. :D

Make sure you plane BEFORE you cut, especially the edges that line up against the fence!

Found out today that the X4000 has a bad "digital board" which I assume refers to the HDMI board.

The shop is not a dealer, or authorized repair shop, simply a general electronics repair place. So, the they'll have to send it elsewhere since they can't source a replacement board. Does that make sense?

Projected to cost $375-450 (+ $45 already paid for estimate). I did find a X4100W OEM HDMI board online for $450, but, not the X4000. So, I believe they're not jerking me on the estimate.

I found of about United Radio and they charge $205 just for out of warranty estimates + $46 to ship it back. Assuming, I have them just diagnose, I'll be $300 out.

The whole reason I went to this general repair shop was to skip shipping and save on time and cost. Neither of those objectives was met.

What happened to diagnosing the PCB and fixing the root cause? Alternately, what kind of issue renders the whole HDMI board kaput? Have they become so complex to be like a PC motherboard with multiple layers and what not and completely unfixable or unfeasible due to repair time vs. replacement cost?

United Radio is a great place to use.
It would be nice if the shop that has it now could find a few bad caps or something.... doesn't leave me with much confidence in them. If the board has surface mount components. Most likely a general type shop wouldn't want to deal with them.

Even though the board 'may' be multi layer, the components are still accessible on the top and bottom.

I hate mailing stuff too.
Sounds like you'd be out the $45 fee to the first shop and the shipping to United Radio.
I'd have UPS pack it for you and get insurance.
If you weren't so far west it could be an excuse for a road trip.:)
