Hey, I'm also looking at X4000 to buy. Is there any other model in other brands which has XT32 and other features are comparable to X4000 and price more or less same (+/-400)?

Also, where do I put that XT32 in my room? I place it anywhere in the room or do I need to put in the middle of the room or something. I'm going to have HT in my living room, so I can't have wires hanging/laying on the floor in the middle of the room. I have two kids too. I saw one model in Onkyo in online that also says it has XT32, but in the picture I don't see a separate device for xt32 as I have seen in x4000. Why is that? in other brands they put the xt32 into the receiver inside?

XT32 is simply software, or an algorithm, all built into the AVR.

That "separate device" you are talking about is the setup/measurement microphone. You plug it in for setup, then unplug it and put it away.

ah, it's not too late. I haven't bought the speakers yet. Is LSR308 better than JBL 530? Provided if I can buy JBL 530 for about the same price $440 per pair, still LSR308 is better? What is the difference between LSR308 and 530?

If you cannot swing for the Denon X4000 - then the X2100 will be fine.
The 125 watts is max on the JBL - it does not need 125 watts to play
the movie and music sounds.

I'm also confused that for x2100 in Amazon in one it says maximum watts per change is 95 watts and in the same page in another place it says maximum watts per channel is 185 watts. in another place is says 125 watts. Which one is true? I'm confused.

Do not get too carried away with marketing specs - some of us who have been around
do not play too much into that.

I can drive the JBL Studio 530 to Loud levels, with an 80 watt receiver and a 90 watt
receiver and a 100 watt receiver.

The Denon x2100 is rated to drive 8 ohm, 6 ohm and 4 ohm speakers - with 95 watts
being 8 ohms. The Denon will drive different speakers with different ohm loads, and
it has some power - what this means, is that the Denon will be a good receiver.

For me and home theater and music use - I prefer passive speakers with a receiver.
The Studio 530 is passive, because is has no built in amp.

If I was mainly doing 2 channel music and home theater listening - then I might
consider the LSR308 - which is an active studio monitor, with a built in amp.
JBL did compromise on the LSR308 cabinet to keep the cost down

You do not need a receiver with active speakers - however, you can use one as a
pre-amp - or just buy a pre-amp. I am not one who would use 5 active studio monitors
for home theater - however some might do it. You would have to plug in all those 5
monitors into electrical circuits.

With the passive speakers it can be easier to set up - and you get bass control
for your subwoofer with the receiver.

I am sure the JBL LSR speakers are decent - however the Studio 530 for me is
a real nice unique speaker, that can take some power and has strong cabinets.

It is all about what floats your boat and what you want to toy with.

Thingy in red is NOT XT32, it's a measuring microphone to teach the receiver your room acoustics and then a chip INSIDE the denon will process the data and apply it to input signal to improve and fix acoustics issues.
This process is call Auto Room Calibration.

Now you could throw the mic out, but you really shouldn't. This process should be repeated if you add furniture or move/rotate speakers even a little bit. So yeah - keep the mic and the manual.
Ideally if you have space - original box/packaging as well. This will help resell value

If I remember correctly the TSR/6 mm jack can accept un-balanced signal.

No, just showing the back of it - to give an idea of the difference
in an active vs passive speaker.

Mainly checking to see if afterlife2 is awake.

Always awake and camera ready. Did not realize these were active. I saw them in a thread that someone recommended and thought they were passive and great for the price. I usually check, but jumped the gun. JBL 530's would be my pick or SVS, but EMP ain't no slouch either.

Finally, I bought JBL 530s, 520c, VTF-3 MK5 HP, and AVR-x4000 for my 5.1 HT. JBL 530s are amazing, excellent bass, looks like I can just use JBL 530s without the sub. I'm not yet happy with VTF-3 MK5 HP. Not sure if something is wrong in the setup. On VTF-3 MK5 HP, what level I should set the volume, Cross frequency, frequency, operating mode, Q Control, crossover? I don't even know what are these. How do I set at the correct level or value? Someone, please help me here.

Also, I have another question. I have setup for 5.1 now. Wondering whether I can use my small old Sony Speaker which came with my old Sony HT-SS370 to make it 7.1 or 9.1. Can I use them to make 7.1 or 9.1? Will it make any better? Will my small Sony speakers get destroyed?

Did Hsu send a manual with it? If not, you can read about the functions here. Did you run Audyssey yet? You need to go through the subs manual, and remember that placement has a big effect on the sound of the sub. If the current placement is badly skewing the sound, that can only be corrected by moving the sub somewhere else.

I would save for the JBL ES10 speakers to use as surrounds.

The Onkyo does not have SubEQHT that the Denon has. SubEQHT allows you to set up two subs and it is a great feature. The Denon also has Dynamic EQ that is very useful if you listen at low to moderately loud level. Aside from the X4000, apparently the Denon AVR-4520 (last year's flag ship) is going for $1,000 or less occasionally.

Looks something really wrong with the sub. Does a sub create electrical smell? When play anything which has more sub work, some electrical coil smell (burning smell or overheated smell) comes from the sub and fills the entire room. Sub volume is almost about 20 or so. I did follow the manual and I used Audyssey to set up the sub.
