Banning the term climate change won’t stop the reality

same here, my wife totally off gluten. Yet if you go to France or Italy, the gluten is still far more tolerable b/c of less GMO's and better crop diversity.
The food there also tastes better IMO.

Again agreed. China, India, USA are largely responsible for the current state of crisis. WE should be the majority contributors to solving it and helping 3rd world countries adapt. Ironically ALL of the 3rd world countries I've visited over the last decade are far more in tune with climate change and trying to do their share at reducing their carbon foot print. It is always amazing for me to see people of meager economic means be so in touch with mother earth.
like what 3rd world countries?

Have you read the book Wheat Belly? Read it. Its an eye opener. I live with the affects first hand. I'm just grateful that it doesn't bother me. My wife and my elder daughter can no longer eat wheat as it really messes with her digestive tract. They are in pain for days afterwards.
No but I'm not sure what makes a cardiologist qualified with gastrointestinal stuff. From my POV, he's an opportunist and found a way to make substantially more money than in his field just like Dr. Oz and several others. His diet program doesn't seem to be working for him, though.

In all honesty, isn't this hobby responsible for a goodly portion of the ills you're railing about? After all, new stuff comes out every year with minimal improvements or new features, and I don't think the countries that make these goodies are exactly environmentally sensitive. Do you really think the continuous manufacture/add feature/dump old/buy new cycle is good for the environment?

nope and I agree. Enough already! I tend to keep my electronics until they fail. It's only b/c I'm in the industry that I update more frequently to "stay current". I stopped caring after getting all of my systems updated to Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD.

And totally f?ck up the human digestive tract with one foul swoop. The rising tide of Gluten Intolerance stems from GMO wheat and other cereal grains. Now we have GMO apples that will not brown if exposed to air. GMO food is NOT the answer to reduce the carbon foot print. Far from it. Before GMO wheat, there was none of this gluten problem. We are killing ourselves off slowly but surely.
Not here in the US, apparently:

Even the anti-GMO crowd says so, world-wide:

http://www.gmo-compass.org/eng/grocery_shopping/crops/22.genetically_modified_wheat.html

"Right now, no genetically modified wheat is being grown anywhere in the world. Plans to introduce GM wheat in North America were abandoned in 2004."

So where are you folks getting your information? Either I'm misunderstanding something, or you guys need a fact-checking class.

I haven't read it either, because the list of criticisms is a mile long. I won't bother listing any, as they're easily found. What it boils down to, is that unless you have celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity, you will not gain any benefit from avoiding wheat, other than a reduction in carbohydrate intake. In other words, you could cut out potatoes and get the same benefits.

Terraces have long been known as a means of increasing yields on sloped ground. If the Peruvians only recently became aware of the technique, I'd place the blame on their government and agriculture department. Now, I grow some of my own veggies, freezing some, giving away some, simply because I find the taste superior. Growing up on a farm, you couldn't get any fresher than picking the corn just before cooking.
Agreed.. I pulled carrots out of teh ground, wiped them on my t-shirt (My mom loved me so much for doing that) and ate the carrot.. PIcking peas usually gave me the runs because I ate so manhy raw ones instead of putting them in the bag for processing later on.

Thats the whole point.. gluten sensitivity. If your not sensitive to wheat, then there is little point of going off of wheat unless one is on a diet and wants to reduce starch intake such as wheat and potatoes.

No, but the fact that they were quoting the US Gov, and I found a link to the original document on the .gov web site sort of convinced me. What's next? The moon landings were faked on a sound stage? :)

Unless your produce is labelled otherwise, it is GMO.

I recommend watching the movie Food, Inc and get a farmers perspective of what Monstanto is doing. They are the Monster Cable of the food industry. Their GMO corn was already rejected by China. If China doesn't want to eat our food, then that tells you what a sad state of affairs we are in.

We were discussing GMO wheat and gluten. If the US Dept of Agriculture says there isn't any GMO wheat sold in the US, I'm not going to pay attention to whatever some movie producer says. I'm sorry you guys had a misconception about GMO wheat, but it apparently just ain't so, unless you think there's some worldwide conspiracy. And if you do, count me out.

On this specific issue I am not certain. However I was told by many knowledgeable people on this topic that we have much less diversity of wheat crop today than we did 20-30 years ago which may partly explain the increased # of people sensitive to gluten. There could be other genetic factors, a combo of various GMO foods consumed, and more visibility in diagnosing such disorders today that weren't as widely known decades ago.

Doing a quick Google search I found many articles like this one so who knows:

A reasonable question to ask was China protecting its people or it's markets? In any event, seems that China is now allowing the import of selected GMO corn and soybeans. Seems that maybe folks are hungry.
