I played around with some settings on the Sony last night. It's no F8500, but it's looking better than before. I used the calibration disc on Sunday, but I started changing some of the advanced settings that I normally leave off - and the blacks look much darker now.

Good to hear the Sony is working out, even if you are a dirty Samsung abandoner :p

I made an impulse bid on an ebay item. I only half hope I win it. Oh, who am I kidding. I want it. It shall be mine. More than likely because no one else wants it.

Dude, I can't adequately express the enormity of how different the noise level is - this Sony is absolutely quiet. If I closed my eyes, I wouldn't know it was on. The Sammy...well, unfortunately, you know. The picture still isn't nearly as good, but I think it's getting better the more I tweak it.

Oh I know. I hear that high pitched whine, every time I turn it on, but that picture keeps drawing me back in. Hopefully you find a 4K/UHD/Whatever the heck TV that can match that Sammy in PQ without that noise. If you wait long enough you'll probably pay less than you briefly paid for the Sammy to boot.

The ebay item is an amp. I definitely don't need it, but don't see one of these coming up again anytime soon. They only thing that might allow me to get it is that it's 240V, but made for the US 60Hz. Which means a simple step up converter should do that trick. I'm just hoping that nobody else who looks at it figures that out.

He definitely doesn't need them and it's clearly a world class setup, but even hearing it I still went a different way.
