You folks seem to wet yourselves over Oppo players. I'm confused...I purchased a BDP-83, and 4 years after the purchase, it went dead. I took it to an authorized dealer, and they said "well, these things happen." $150 for a new power supply. One month later, the tray would not open or close using the on-unit button...I had to use the remote to do so. Now, a few months later, it won't read random DVD disks.
Hmm....in my bedroom, I have a $80 "piece of crap" blu-ray player that has never failed me in 5 years.
So, as I search for a new, high-quality player for my main room....what is the real "piece of crap?" How can you convince me that I should get a new Oppo player when it has disappointed on so many levels? Does anybody at the superstar Oppo organization want to weigh in on this? Should I treat a "high-end" player like the Oppo as only having a viable life of 2-3 years and consider that the price of getting audio- video-phile performance is limited life?
Not happy.
