Why not deal with Oppo customer service directly? I wasn't even aware they had an authorized dealer network???

Oh and I've owned DVD and Blu-ray players from: Panasonic, Oppo, Denon, and Marantz, etc. To date I've never had a Denon last me more than 2-3 years without some reliability issue including their flagship DVD-5910. I had similar issues with Marantz. I had a couple of minor issues with Oppo most of which was fixed with firmware updates. Nobody is perfect, but Oppo has GREAT customer service!

Was reading this and +1 on the Marantz, I have taken mine in 3x for the drive motor which had to be replaced, it would hum as loud as a helicopter. I will never buy a Marantz blu-ray player again.

One can say whatever they want about using a game console as a media machine, but the PS3 works great. I've been using the PS3 as a Blu-ray player since I first got it and it's been working with almost no fuss for a long time (no idea how long exactly). Recently I booted it up and it just locked up and wouldn't do anything then eventually turned itself off. I turned it back on and it resumed normal function. It gets used almost daily as a Netflix player and 1 or 2 times a week for DVDs and Blu-rays.

I also have an XBOX ONE and I refuse to use it as a Blu-ray player. It always audibly and visually hangs on layer transitions and sometimes it just acts up during playback with little glitches and twitches.

If your ps3 starts acting up you could try opening it up and replacing the old thermal compound on the cpu.

I stuck a usb powered 120 mm fan next to my ps3 to help keep it cool and it has definitely made a difference :D
