MS Windows always tends to slow down as time passes. If you stay on top of it as some folks have mentioned already, you can make it last longer. If it's already running slow, I would take the opportunity to upgrade the hardware and do a clean install of the OS. Another option is to switch to a user-friendly Linux such as LinuxMint; my mother-in-law's machine is a Linux machine and she has no issues using it. I have PC, Mac, and Linux in my home and MS by far gives me the most trouble. The Apple stuff is well made, but overpriced for what you get.

This Saturday my 2010 OCZ ssd finally gave up and took my boot OS with it. I knew it's coming sooner or later and had a a bit newer stand-by intel ssd.
Installed new Win 8.1 Pro and most of apps in few hours. Nothing critical was lost as most of data is ether cloud backed-up or on other drives.

Looking potentially to use new "Storage Spaces"/ReFS software array to better protect data in the future.

I just recently went from a 1TB WD Black to a 240gb Crucial M500 SSD on a Core 2 Duo setup and it's night and day. I also upgraded to windows 7 (from XP) and that alone makes you feel like you have a new computer. I never run virus scans, and I don't restart often and I am not experiencing much if any slow down. My old HDD was full and that was causing my speed to slow. I added a 2 TB WD Green for all my storage and that restored my 1 TB WD Black back to reasonable speed, but reformatting and the SSD made me skip buying a new computer altogether.

On my last job I got a free Dell Latitude e4310 laptop with 1st gen Core i3.
I swapped HD to Sandisk X110 SSD, Given it 4gb ram and installed Win7 Pro and it's rocking. I honestly don't need more powerful laptop.
Only one really annoying thing is low display resolution

I normally don't have issues with Windows, but I don't think a Mac is overpriced. I think you are discounting the value of good support and software stability. I don't personally own a mac or any apple products, but I would definitely love to have one of their computers.

Good apple support? When was the last time dealt with Apple "geniuses"?

So this is going as expected...

I got the SSD and after researching vs the Net, I decided it was best to use the Samsung Migration software to move the data from my desktop to the SSD.

The migration starts fine and gets to 96% and fails each time.

Also when I plug the SAT to USB cable in it shows that my source disk( CPU) is 931.5 GB and the Target disk (SSD) IS 465.8.

Yet when I look at my source disk, it shows to be at 165 GB.

And my SSD shows to be at capacity at 37.1 MB

Obviously I don't have a clue what I am doing.

Any help out there?

From what I see the problem is Windows is not detecting the SSD correctly - it should not say (in last image) DVD RW Drive and it should NOT say file system is UDF. I think the problem might be with BIOS settings or version. Check this video:

Like I didn't already throw that mess away and go get a Mac...

Naw, I have everything on the SSD now(I think) and I have everything backed up on an external HD(I think) so I think I am going to the next step or stop on by tonight.

OK, I am up and running but I can't find where to change to AHCI in my BIOS and I have looked everywhere. Any hints there?

It's nice to see that even with all that money you make, you're still as cheap as we are when it comes to this stuff and insist on doing it yourself. :)
