Hard to recommend specific monitor, as a guideline if you don't care about video gaming much, then stick with accurate colors and this leaves you with IPS or (a bit better PLS) type panels. Look for obvious things like do you have needed ports (i personally would never buy pc monitor without at-least both VGA and DVI - the rest neat extras)
Check for adjustments (tilt, height) etc. It might not be important now, but could be game breaker later one. if it doesn't have height adjustment at least make sure it supports Vesa plates for future optional arm or stand.
Samsung, Asus and Dell would be probably on my short list. Don't trust LG anymore and Benq is a hit or miss. AOC is direct brand, they actually make panels for bigger brands, but it would a gamble quality/warranty wise.
I also like the lcd monitors with high brightness, with time they get a bit dimmer. Extra brightness not going to hurt at all. aka 300 cd/m2 is better than 250 cd/m2
