Rotator Cuff Surgery... Still Not Fun

Had it ~10 years ago. Not fun. Had it again last week. Dr said they had made a lot of advancements and improvements in the last 10 years. Maybe... but still not fun.

One suggestion to anyone who is going to have it. If it will be on your primary arm side, practice doing stuff with your other hand/arm... especially personal hygiene stuff.

On a positive note, yesterday I took a picture of one of the most beautiful and rare sites in the world... my wife on the lawnmower!!! :D

Nice lawn. I definitely need to learn to wipe with the left. If my right arm ever gets disabled I'd be screwed :(

Best of luck on your recovery!

No comments from the peanut gallery on advantages of your non-dominant hand. :D

But get well soon. I do the lawn mowing and snow removal and my wife does the laundry. It's a fair trade in my book! I have used the left hand for different tasks and it is difficult, but not impossible. But still, no fun having the surgery.

My dad had his done about 7-8 years ago too and he still does most things with that arm, but not everything that he used to for sure. He's ambidextrous though, since he is left dominant, but does a lot of things with his right arm. Get well!

Hope your down time after surgery is short and recovery swift.

Man, that's like a picture of Bigfoot (and as wild of a story, too :D) - yeah, there's something out there in the distance...but you gave it just few enough pixels that it could be just about anything. :p

Thanks for the good wishes.

BSA, rich people have "expansive lawns". I just have a lot of grass to cut.

MWH, I agree. Would much rather do lawn chores than laundry chores. If the wife ever gets laid up, I guess she'll laugh with her friends over a picture of me in front of the washer/dryer.

Darian, yep. Tore the first repair off during physical therapy a month after the surgery. Weak for the last 10 years, but just lately painful... thus the retry. Since then, I have learned not to put tomato in a fruit salad, and "no pain, no gain" is not necessarily an effective mantra during physical therapy.

And finally Adam. Oh ye of little faith. I could dole out close-ups of footprints, hair, scat... or quotes from residents of the nearest trailer park, but somehow I'm not sure even that would be enough for you. So here ya go...

Same Magnolia tree on the left... same Fig tree on the right.
"Snake hat" on head, (because snakes DO drop out of trees!!!). (In case any of you Mason-Dixon Challenged people are unaware, big straw hats have nothing to do with protection from the sun. They are protection from snakes dropping out of trees onto your head. At least, according to my wife. ;))

Thanks again for all the well wishes. And my thanks to all of you!!! A nice HT makes recovery a lot more pleasant!!!

Wow. You're a hard sell. All I can say is the pink shirt and flowerdy pants should tell you something. You decide what. :D

I tore my cuffs and labrum when I had my motorcycle wreck. Surgeries fixed it all and I have just three little scars to as evidence. It took time, but I'm about 90% pre-injury... I can live with that. I had decompression surgery about a year after that which really helped too. Nowadays, things like this just don't seem like that big of a deal.

It's been a month. Lots of progress. But today learned it's still a little too soon for shooting a 12ga pump. 6' blacksnake in the garage. If it was just me, I'd chase it out and be done. Wife disagrees. Ever since she found one curled up in her washing machine, any snake "in the house" must die, thus the 12ga. Bad idea, (but got the snake). Next was codeine... better idea. I guess baby steps.

I feel for you I have had 3 shoulder surgeries and they are terrible, they won't do both at the same time so I still need to open up my left side again. My right side is almost perfect now minus the scarring, no more aching, crunching, or rattling {sounded like a baby toy before} but the left is still in pretty rough shape... Some advice from someone who has had to wear the sling a few times- Get a HUGE pillow {I have this one Amazon.com - Embrace Memory Foam Body Pillow from Sleep Innovations - }, and sleep with it so your shoulder is not under you with zero pressure. I move a lot in my sleep and reinjured my left shoulder twice until I got the pillow, now I wedge it around my upper body so I can not roll around and my hurt shoulder can be elevated... Also, this thing is awesome Amazon.com: Sunbeam 730-811 Heating Pad plus Massage: Health & Personal Care I wore one out {took 2 years} and I am no my second one... My doc actually recommended it, the vibration promotes blood flow and feels so good {on your shoulder, perverts}...

.410 make good snake guns. Much easier on the shoulder too! Plus a good excuse to make a new purchase!

Both of my shoulder's sound like rice krispies. My left one hurts a little more each month and is starting to try to pop out of place sometimes on the bike. I haven't lifted weights in a year now and I'm not sure if that is good or bad.
