Yes it will be pretty difficult, at least at first. Especially since I grew up in a small town where my Dad owned a small business and my Mom is a teacher. Most of my family is here as well. My GF constantly remarks that we can't go anywhere in Saugerties or even the surrounding towns without me being able to say hi to someone or without me saying, "Hey I know that person". Throw in the fact that I've been substitute teaching for the past 4 years and I've probably met, face to face, 10,000+ of the 25,000ish residents of my town. So when I say I'm in my comfort zone here, I mean deeeeeeep into that comfort zone.
Don't get me wrong, I didn't think I'd be crazy about living in a "city" when I went to college, but it ended up being alright. By my Sophmore year I never wanted to come home. Based on the two trips we've taken down to the area, I get the sense that it's somewhere in between where I am now and being at college. Which I think will be a great fit, especially since we'll be relatively close to Ocean city (~2.5 hrs to Ocean City and ~2 from the Delaware beaches).
Overall, as crazy as it sounds, I'm most excited about the bills. Water, electric, gas, etc. The idea of finally being self sufficient is pretty satisfying. I am closer to 30 than I am further away, but I guess it's better than actually being 30 before I get to this point. As an example, a friend of mine has a cousin who also was substitute teaching in Saugerties. Her resume looks better than mine, she's more outgoing, and may even be a better teacher than I am in certain areas. She's 28, turning 29 this year IIRC and just got her first job about a week ago. My point in bringing this up, is that if she had to go through 8 years of BS and shows better on paper and in interviews than I, then I couldn't be happier to get out of the area and start fresh and not in Florida or NC, no offense to either of those places. They just suck if you're a teacher.
