Sealed SI 18" Car Sub

So a friend of mine asked if I could build him a subwoofer for his car. He ended up getting an 18" SI sub, per my recommendation and he dropped it off to me today. Unfortunately, I didn't realize how small his trunk is, being that it's a Subaru WRX STI. I think I can still make something that will fit and perform decently well, but I guess we won't know until it's done.

Neither would work. The trunk is too small to fit anything except a sealed alignment. Plus, the SI subs aren't really best ported. At least from what I've modeled and seen.

An 18" in a car?!?! What is he doing SPL competitions or just trying to blow his windows out?

Trying to blow his windows out I think lol. I told him to get the 15", but he ordered the 18", not that either is exactly appropriate for the car in question. Especially since the box I had planned for the 15" was gonna be tight. The box for the 18" is just going to be silly tight. I'm a little afraid he might tap the trunk door if he cranks it too loud

I'm pretty sure that driver needs a big box, but it's been a while since I modeled it. Seriously why would you add that much weight to that car. He need to take out stuff not add it.

My model has the driver in a box that's 67.63 liters, with a Qtc of .752, and an F3 of 38hz. How far off am I from yours? He ain't the brightest bulb in the box, and he drives that little race car like he stole it. Why he wants a sub this big in a car like that is beyond me, but it gives me something to do and I get to play with the subwoofer until he's ready to install it so I was in :D

When you're done with that, we can talk about building something for my car. Tight space would be an understatement on mine.

I'd probably try an IB in the car first, but please do play with the driver for us.

I'll definitely be putting it through its paces when the box is built and I'll do a little playing with it free space as well.

Well, that didn't last long. I unhooked my little sub for my 2.1 computer setup and now have the SI hooked up, running free air. I never listen loud enough to even begin to stress the thing (at least when the speakers are a foot from my face, even in free space. Right now my a$$ is vibrating, which is oddly enjoyable. I'm starting to see why people like these SI subs. :D

Now you know why people become bassheads.

But then they drive down your street a two AM with it blaring and you recognize that they are really just bassholes.
I guess it doesn't bother me. Around here the engines are louder than the stereos.

I've got all the materials. I've verified the sub works. Now I just need that last magical ingredient.........time.

Well, it's a box. However, I try to always add something I've never done before into every build I do so this build I'm trying two new things. The first is using a trim nailer instead of clamps and PL200 instead of wood glue.

I'd still glue with the trim nailer. That's a big arse driver lol
