You might have already seen these, but there have been a few threads related to Darbee, specifically the implementation into the Oppo 103D player. If you do a search for "Darbee," those will pop right up. Fuzz did a write up of his impressions of it.

At $300+, it seems a bit pricey for one of those "I think I see something" devices. It it were $100... maybe $150... then I'd see what it's all about.

Thanks fuzz

I will most likely by the Darbee Cobalt as a standalone product. I understand with the Oppo that you can turn it on or off. Do you use this feature often?
I don't use it at all for BD's but use it all the time for tv and DVD's. I actually have it setup so that the Oppo automatically comes on when the cable box comes on.

I like it and use it, but would never pay $300 for it. I still am not 100% convinced it makes enough of a difference in real world use to he worth the extra $100 over the regular Oppo 103.

Exchange for a 105 :D

I think even the stand alone boxes allow you to control how much "Darbeeing" it gives you or off also.

Yea right, the GF would kill me. Unfortunately she knows how much the 103D costs and how much the 105 costs and she can do math

AFAIK they do. I've played around with the different modes and different levels of processing. The artifacting drives me insane so I needed to get to a point where it was barely detectable, but then I found it was set too low and I was losing the whole point of having the processing in the first place. So I turned it up to a newly, grudgingly acceptable point and it's been set that way for quite some time now.

Some other thoughts are that it is much more effective during certain scenes than it is others and that the effects are a whole lot more noticeable when you pause and flick it on and off, then when watching in real time. At least to my eyes, which isn't to say that there aren't differences. In the end, I think what made me keep it, other than sheer laziness, was that there was and is a definitive improvement to the image when you compare on to off during paused scenes, and not a minuscule difference once you get it dialed in to an appropriate level. My own problem is that I still have a hard time picking out those differences in real time, which is kind of the whole point, isn't it? This leads to where I'm a bit torn.

The best way I can sum up my feelings are like this: If I were to do it over again, I'd probably buy the 103D again. OTOH, if someone were to offer me a NIB 103 and $100, I'd probably take the trade. Whatever that means.
