I see these as trivial side issues, John, meant to divert the focus of the population and championed by the politicos from issues that have a unifying benefit to the entire population like jobs that pay well and have real growth. The politicos on both sides are segmenting the population into little groups because I think it's easier to appease and control them rather than dealing with major issues.

Btw, where does this person go to the bathroom?

At home in NC :)

The whole issue is bogus in my opinion. No one is being discriminated against. No one is being told they cannot use a restroom.

I totally agree that the Feds are overreaching but also doing so intentionally as a distraction. That has been the manifesto of this administration and others for some time.

Divide and conquer strategies are alive and well and almost never get old.

I'm curious as to what exactly triggered this?
Me too. I'm cynical enough I can envision the Charlotte mayor and some national Democratic Party leaders conspiring to set this thing up. Even San Francisco and Seattle don't have laws requiring separate bathrooms for LGBT. Why Charlotte?

FYI, our Governor was the mayor of Charlotte before running for Governor. That means the democrats there know him. It has been reported he said he knows this whole thing is political suicide for him, but he believes it's the right thing to do. And people forget that the Governor doesn't pass a law. The elected legislature passes the laws. The Governor simply signs them.

No matter how it is resolved, NC is losing millions of $ with various businesses and performers pulling out.

The problem is both sides turn this into an issue. We have more people angry about the FWISD bathroom policy than the dropout rate. People rail against these topics because it's a lot easier for them to cope with.

Who cares about the pout rate!?!? We will just print more money for those that cannot gain employment, or simply, won't gain employment.

I'm curious why people are blaming the federal government for this when it was the Republican controlled legislature of North Carolina that is responsible for this mess. Talk about creating a problem where none actually exists. Conservatives seem to like individual rights for many things that can infringe the rights of others (i.e. guns) but ignore them for very individual things like abortion and which bathroom. Of course the liberals have plenty of their own hypocritical stances as well.

I reference you all to the 2004 episode of South Park dealing with the election. In short there was an election for a new school mascot. The choices were a giant douche and a turd sandwich. In 2016 we are now the United States of South Park.

The business owners in Charlotte who would have been forced to add or reconfigure their restrooms, at their own expense, might not agree. And the father who sees a man going into a restroom or locker room occupied by his daughter might not agree either.

And yet, somehow, this is not a problem anywhere else in the country?

I have a daughter and have never noticed or considered this issue. There are no recurring reports of sexual assaults in the bathrooms in our country.
I don't know enough about transgender people to understand how it works (and certainly the idea seems upsetting on the surface); however, the truth is in the (lack of) news of problems. I might guess that transgender people generally keep to themselves on a bathroom visit.

Sometimes it is best to let sleeping dogs lie.

I am trying my best to say nothing about this truly dumb situation. It's political tit for tat at its worst.

Whether the Charlotte city counsel & mayor are right or wrong, it does not justify NC passing a state law that clearly violates US laws on discrimination. Two wrongs don't cancel each other out.

An interesting question from Todd Starnes to the Attorney General.

"A question for the Attorney General:

Shouldn't a 16-year-old who identifies as a 21-year-old be allowed to consume alcohol?

Shouldn't a 40-year-old who identifies as a 70-year-old receive Social Security benefits and the senior citizen discount at the movie theatre?

I mean if we are going to identify people simply because of their "feelings" --- doesn't anything go?"

I really hope that one day all of you that think that being Gay or Transgendered is a "feeling" have a child or relative that is LGBT so you will realize that people are born this way and it is not a choice and it is who they are.

NC MADE this an issue.

Adam says that for the right money they get mighty friendly.
Alright, not you've got me spiraling down through a vicious cycle of possibilities:

Are we talking guys dressed as women using the men's bathroom, or guys dressed as women using the women's bathroom, or women dressed as men in the men's bathroom, or women dressed as men in the women's bathroom.

I'm scared to make any assumptions where Adam is involved!

I think the question being asked is how far does the general population have to go to accommodate X/Y/Z?

If you are LGBT I have zero issue. I'm just wary of being asked as a business owner to start accommodating this, that, the other that is coming down the pipeline.

I don't want you to feel any more discriminated against then say the Women in the female locker room sharing it with a Man that identifies as female. They have rights and reasonable expectations also and just because you identify as a female but genetically type out as male doesn't and shouldn't trivialize others.

I have no answers for any of this. Only questions.

Back in 2014, ABC compiled this list of Facebook classifications when it comes to gender. I'm not sure there are standard definitions or that the list reflects whatever the current count is. So to think this is simply a conventional transgender thing is a great oversimplification.

Here's a List of 58 Gender Options for Facebook Users

Feb 13, 2014, 3:51 PM

Facebook introduced dozens of options for users to identify their gender today - and although the social media giant said it would not be releasing a comprehensive list, ABC News has found at least 58 so far.

Previously, users had to identify themselves as male or female. They were also given the option of not answering or keeping their gender private.

User's can now select a "custom" gender option.

"There's going to be a lot of people for whom this is going to mean nothing, but for the few it does impact, it means the world," Facebook software engineer Brielle Harrison told the Associated Press. Harrison, who worked on the project, is in the process of gender transition, from male to female.

The way I see it, if the person has a pee pee, then go to men's bathroom because there are standing urinals. If the person has a vajay jay, go to women's bathroom because there are more stalls. It's not about misogyny, it's about how easy it is to go do the business.
