NAD vs. Parasound Preamplifier

To Sum It Up Well, thanks everyone for valuable input. This forum always is helpful. It seems like most are leaning toward the Parasound, so that may be thebetter way to go. At the end of the dayI’m not sure how much discernable impact a preamp will have on sound vs. the poweramp...

    NAD vs. Parasound Preamplifier

Good call, but I need more than one analog input.

    NAD vs. Parasound Preamplifier

Parasound just seems to pack in so many more features at the price point, so I'm wondering if they've cut any corners on basic sound quality...but then again, I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth.

    NAD vs. Parasound Preamplifier

"I have seen more reliability complaints online for Nad than Para, so I would lean towards the Para." Thanks for the insight. "But, at a $1K budget, why not get the Emo XSP-1?" I prefer the ergonomics and styling on the NAD and Parasound.

    NAD vs. Parasound Preamplifier

I’m looking for a pre-amp in the $1k price range to anchor atwo-channel, music only system. I’venarrowed my choices to the NAD C 165BEE or the Parasound P5. I realize the P5 has far morefeatures than the NAD, such as a DAC, HT pass-through and bass management, butI would not be using...

    Focal 800 V W speakers being discontinued

It’s a long standing controversy in the hifi world as to whether or not amplifiers have a sound of their own. (check out the Audioholics Youtube video at https://us-mg5.mail.yahoo.com/neo/launch?retry_ssl=1) In my experience they do and I have found my trusty Marantz SR8000 surround receiver to...

    Focal 800 V W speakers being discontinued

Hmmm. Do you remember which Chours? 700, 800 V or 800V W series? What amp did you use to drive them? If it was your Marantz, that combination could make for too bright a sound.

    Focal 800 V W speakers being discontinued

Thanks Z. That's a good deal. One thing to point out is that the Music Direct listing (I think) is for the 836 V, not the 836 V W. My undestanding is that although they share the same tweeter, the 836 V W has better mids and woofers which are similar to those used in the higher end Focal...

    Focal 800 V W speakers being discontinued

I recenly started doing some consulting for a mid-hi end A/V store in my area and one of my favorite product lines on which we "focus" is Focal. Focal offers many excellent values in a wide price range. They are going through a consolidation of their portfolio and offering a new line they are...

    Spendor vs. Totem Acoustics

Not sure if you're agreeing with me or not, but I do agree that the music is what matters. But speakers, like every other component in the chain, add coloration no matter how well designed. Some will appeal more than others, and in the end will add to what is ultimately an emotional...

    Spendor vs. Totem Acoustics

As some of the members on this thread know, I have been searching for stand-mount speakers for a while now. In the process of auditioning many brands and models both in showrooms and at home, including the Spendor SP1/2R2, I settled on the Totem Element "Fire" as my first choice. I thought it...

Standmounts $2K, $4K, $6K: Home Audition WaveTouch, Salk Silk, B&W CM5, Totem Element Fire

This makes sense, and probably would apply somewhat as well to matching stand-mounts with subs in the same "family". And thanks for the reminder on the NHT's. I just realized they're in Benicia, CA, which is about 40 minutes from me, so they're now the list to check out both the stand-mounts...

Standmounts $2K, $4K, $6K: Home Audition WaveTouch, Salk Silk, B&W CM5, Totem Element Fire

There is an in-wall cabinet for the sub, which is the limiting factor. A new sub would be replacing a Polk PSW450 that was installed when we moved into the house. It just sounds flabby to me at higher volume levels. BTW, is it possible to damage a sub? I was playing around with it yesterday...

There's nothing like a little cold water to cool things down...and it finally started to rain a bit here in CA. :) Also, you guys keep coming up with other suggestions!
