    Emo XPA-100

OK, I’m still trying to wrap my head around this. So, when I see the specs for an amp, and they read “200 watts per channel with all channels driven into an 8 ohm load” does that mean that the amp is putting out those 200 watts all the time, with the primary limiting factor being the volume...

    Emo XPA-100

What I'm asking is as demand on the amp increases and the ohm level drops, is amperage more important than wattage?

    Emo XPA-100

OK, I have some questions for all you amp guru’s; Am I right in saying that the ohms drop when there is more demand put on the amp, and usually in the lower frequencies? Is there a point when the average setup will have enough watts to adequately power the speakers, no matter the volume &...

Speaker shopping-A new approach Part 2

Speakers may indeed be one of the areas in which objectivity & subjectivity both play strong roles. Should one buy solely on specs? Can two speakers which measure nearly the same sound the same? I’m still liking my Omni 550’s very much – wish I could afford the OMD 28’s :(

Sick of the "wind up" posts

Yes, I understand – but responding to his posts, no matter how inane, is just giving him what he wants. He knows you don’t like him – he gets it. Don’t give him what he wants, and eventually he’ll get the idea & start keeping his opinions to himself.

Sick of the "wind up" posts

I just need to make an observation here. This section is titled “The Steam Vent” and is described as an area to do just that – blow off steam. Many of us come here just to shoot the s***, like Darien who posted a thread about some animals getting electrocuted by some downed power lines. That was...

Sick of the "wind up" posts

I’ll second that, and add that it would help to at least try to see things from another person’s perspective. No, you don’t have to agree with the person, and you may even gain a new dimension to your own viewpoint you hadn’t considered before. If you truly don’t like what someone has to say –...

Buying an amp $1000 limit, old vs new, What would you do?

One of the new Pioneer Elite or Denon receivers would fit the bill for both stereo music & home theater, and will fit in your budget. The speakers you use will have a larger impact on overall quality of sound. If you want a good quality stereo amp only, you can’t go wrong with an Emotiva...

    EQ help

Applying the EQ in the computer would change the signal before it’s output to the amp/sub, as opposed to adding another piece of equipment into the chain of items reproducing the sound – IMO, a better way of doing things.

    Gps

Sometimes the ability of the GPS to get you right to an address is hit or miss. I say if it allows lat/lon input, use Google Earth & go for it.

    Bow down....it's protocal he says......

Don’t know, but I bet I know what country it’s made in :D The man was simply showing respect for another countries traditions. Kind of what we ask of people immigrating here ;)

    Gps

I have one & absolutely love it. (I break the mold when it comes to being a “typical male” – I stop & ask for directions, as well as reading the instructions.) It’s about 4 years old, so the big issue is lack of updates. Maybe a GPS built into a cell phone would be updated more often? Be sure to...

    For Sale: B&K Reference 50 v 1.04 pre/pro

Due to some recent changes, I have a B&K Reference 50 preamp processor v 1.04. It has the usual scuff marks from age but functions just fine. I have the remote, PC hookup moduel and power cord. Figure I would put it up here before Audiogon. Features: • THX Ultra 2 certification and post...

    Its evolution baby!

Recent estimates put the age of the universe at 13.7 billion years. Many astronomers & scientists believe that in our early solar system, a planetoid the size of Mars smashed into the fledgling Earth, the resulting impact ejecting mass amounts of debris, which through accretion developed into...

A fixed focal length lens will yield the best results. The number of elements & their grouping matters, as well as the coatings on the lens. More zoom range usually means some degradation in sharpness, but it’s not very practical (or $ wise) to carry around a slew of lenses, and changing them...
